CLUB NEWS AROUND CAMPUS
Delta Chi Busy!
Delta Chi Omega conducted
a “Walk for Cancer” on
February 5, in co-ordination
with SJAFB Girl Scouts. This
project showed their con
tinuous contributions and
efforts for the betterment of
mankind. The walk which
began at Wilbur’s Barbecue
and terminated in Kinston,
was a contribution that will be
long remembered by the
community. Delta Chi also
sponsored the Heart Fund
Dance on March 10. A lot of
work went into this dance and
their effort were all ap
preciated.
The latest item on the
agenda for the fraternity is
financing and erecting a
Sigma Tau Sigma brother teach the kids how to play pool. The brothers had more fun than the kids.
Sigma Tau Sigma Becomes Involved

wiD be placed outside the
north end of the Student
Union. The sign will be up in
May and will cost ap
proximately $500.
Delta Chi Omega has seven
pledges this quarter. They are
Johnny Sauls, David
Holscumb, Van Maddox,
Terry Wilkerson, John
Prevette, and Kent Rose. Tim
Phillips, a returning brother
has stated that Delta will now
“get their xxxx together.”
Rush for luring quarter was
held March 20-24. Results will
appear in the next issue of
Wayne Communique’.
“Being involved” has been
Sigma Tau Sigma’s recently
adopted motto. They have
backed this up with their |i
active participation “on and
off” campus.
Their main project “off”
campus has been working
with a special education class
from East End School. On
March 9th the brothers, aided
by several Alpha Pi Epsilon
sisters, gave a party for the 15
kids. Other parties for the
class are in the planning
stages.
Sigma Tau Sigma has
recently formed their softball
team to represent them in the
intramurals this season. They
are; Ricky Sanderson, Frank
Pace, John Whitesell, Jimmy
Whitehurst, Buster Anderson,
Bobby Friede, Bill Hammond,
Eddie Lane, Roger Stevenson,
Curt Hatch, Harold Tyson,
Marshall Gregory, Gene
Harrellson, Mark Best, David
Bankhead, Ronnie Edwards,
Mike Steele (pledge), and
Darryl Kilpartick, manager.
A fraternity house has
recently been obtained by
Sigma Tau Sigma. The house
is located on Ash Street and
can be found easily due to the
Greek letters “proudly”
displayed out front.
Sigma Tau Sigma brothers
are glad to welcome back
Bobby Friede, a brother who
has just returned from
national guard duty in Texas.
Plans for the future deals
with Spring Rush the week of
March 20th and the Azalea
Festival.

Recently a Wayne County
Concerned (WCC) Young
Republicans Club was formed
here on campus. Officers were
elected as follows; Chairman-
Tim Price; Vice-Chairwoman
- Debbie Evans; Secretary -
Treasurer - Nel Boyd. Mr. P.
C. Barwick, state chairman of
YR’s, was guest speaker for
the organizational meeting.
Presently the club is waiting
approval of the SGA.
Future plans include a “pig-
pickin”, given to the club by
the Republican Party in
Wayne County. The WCCYR’s
earned this by capturing a
large percent of the voter
registration here on campus in
February. Also, the club will
be working in the primary in
Wayne County in May. All
persons desiring information
concerning the Republican
primary should contact any
member of the WCCYR’s.

Phi Theta Kappa Holds Initiation
In a recent candlelight
ceremony twenty-seven new
members were initiated into
the Upsilon Chi Chapter of Phi
Theta Kappa. FoDowing the
ceremony, which was held in
the Student Union Board

Mock Election
To Be Held
The Young Democrat Club at
Wayne Community will
sponsor a mock election on
March 23 in the student union.
Ballots for President of the
U.S., governor, and
lieutenant-governor of N.C.
will be distributed among
students, faculty and staff for
voting. Results will be
published after tabulation.
A political rally will be held on
March 23. All local and state
candidates were extended an
invitation to attend. This rally
will be sponsored by several
political organizations of
which one is the Y.D.C. on
campus.

Phi Theta Kappa is an honor
fraternity for Junior Colleges
of America. To be asked to
become a member a student
must either acquire a high
quality point average the first
quarter or maintain a 3.2
average for two quarters and
show leadership qualities. All
members must maintain an
overall average of 3.0 in order
to remain in good standing
with the fraternity. Students
that graduate as a member of
Phi Theta Kappa have a gold
stamp place on their per
manent records.
