Harrison ignites SGA
by Martha O'Neal
In May 1987, the
Executive Board of the
Student Government Asso
ciation elected Holly Allan
Harrison as President of
the student body of Wayne
Community College.
In the past the SGA was
run by advisors because of
a lack of student partici
pation. Harrison's persis
tant efforts to rejuvenate
the SGA convinced advisors
that students were ready to
take care of their own SGA.
Whether he had to dress
like a she-wolf stripper at
an SGA conference or clank
around in mouse attire
adorned with metallic
buttons (for the Send a
Mouse to College fund
raiser), he managed to
attract attention as well
as many smiles.
At the 1988 spring
quarter conference in
Raleigh, Harrison was the
respectable, suit-clad.
State Parliamentarian by
day and the white-wigged,
sun-glassed, loudly dressed
party-goer by the night's
dance.
Through his enthusiasm
Harrison involved many
students, faculty and staff
in events and activities
SGA offered.
Jerry Kornegay states.
"Holly has led the SGA from
a five- or six-person orga
nization to full campus
participation. He set
examples by not being just
an organizer but a partici
pant."
During the past few
quarters the Student Gov
ernment has reconstructed
its constitution to allow
students flexibility and
growth.
Holly Harrison took a
non-prospering organiza
tion and turned it into an
organization that- students !
can truly benefit from. ■ • *

other teams. According to
coach Joseph Hackett,

from its mistakes" made at
this tournament.
