BLET prepares law Participants in the BLET program don gas masks during a tear gas simulation exercise. enforcers From tear gas to report writing, the Basic Law Enforcement Training pro gram at Wayne Community College prepares law enforcement personnel for their jobs. According to instructor Beverly Deans, BLET coordinator, the program was formerly offered by the Salemburg Justice Academy; now 6 part-time and 3 full time students are taking t?.e evening courses Monday through Thursday and all day Saturday. BLET students must be at least 20 years old and be recommended by a sheriff or police chief. After this training, participants ride with a field training officer for 4-6 weeks before they are ready to go out on the street. Instructors who assist Deans in the courses.are certified by the state and are chosen from the Goldsboro Police Depart ment and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department.
