MCAE sponsors get together NOV. 14,1990 - WCC CAMPUS VOICE 11 By: Ronald Lane On Thursday, September 20, 1990, the Multi cultural Association -for Enrichment (MCAE) hosted a get-acquainted hour -for the minority freshmen students. Janice Hill, Counselor, 0-f-fice o-f Minority A-f-fairs, welcomed 22 faculty and sta-f-f and 35 students who attended. She explained that the purpose o-f the get-together was to acquaint students both with each other and with the services available to minority students. MCAE Presdent Tim Dortch then spoke about the club, and Gerald Heath, Co- Advisor, introduced -faculty and sta-f-f in positions to help minority students, including Yvonne Goodman, Finanical Aid and Personnel Director; Directed Studies Coordinator Saundra Smith; Norma Dawson, Counselor -from the Career Center; and counselor Annette Lewis who Eleven attend NC4SGA By: Ronald Lane Eleven students and an advisor represented WCC at the North Carolina Compre hensive Community College Student Government Associa tion Fall Con-ference in Greensboro on November 2-4. Students attended work shops o-f their choice and division and committee meet ings. Annette Hawkins, math instructor, explained the function o-f the Math Lab, and English instructor Gerald Simmons spoke about a new course of special interest to minorities— African i^^erican Litera ture .. Student Support Services Director Shirley James spoke about tutorial assi stance. Nursing Instructor Ludia Burden spoke about opportunities in the medical field, and Heath explained Co-Op/Job Placement opportunities. Nnenna Freelon, WCC, Vi si t i ng Art i st, and Clifton McNair, a freshman, sang to the students. There were door prizes and refreshments in addition to a display where students could receive information. Grace Lutz, District 12 Treasurer, NCAEOP Lutz wins election (starting winter quarter); Thomas Taylor, Treasurer; and Chrissy Gunther, Secretary. continued on page 19 By; Edmund Fu Grace Lutz, Media Specialist and member of the Wayne Community College chapter of the Association of Educational Office Personnel (WCCAEOP), has been elected Treasurer of District 12 of the North Caroli na unit. District 12, the largest district in the state, has 350 members. Lutz-'s responsibilities during her one-year term will include keeping dis trict level financial records, registration at district annual meetings, and other duties. Frances Allen, secretary to the Dean of Curriculum, and another WCCAEOP member, has been awarded a plaque for recruiting the most local members for 1990.
