Schedule causes
frustration
NOV. 14,1990 - WCC CAMPUS VOICE 17
To the editors
The staggered schedule
between the North and the
South Campus creates a
monumental "problem -for
those o-f us who need
classes on both campuses.
Each time a student
tal<es a class on one
campus, she or he el imi-
nates the possibility o-f
two class hours on the
other campus.
The staggered schedule
especially a-f-fects second
year college transfer
students like me who need
to -fill those last -few
requirements before moving
on to a four-year institu
tion.
I would like to see the
break between classes
lengthened to 20 minutes,
with both campuses opera
ting on the same schedule.
This plan would give
students ample time to
travel from one campus to
the other.
I realize that it would
mean that those students
who do not need to commute
would also have a slightly
longer break between
classes than they are used
to.
It would, however,
eliminate some of the
inconvenience that those of
us who are required to take
classes on both campuses
endure.
I for one am very
frustrated by the
scheduling problems that I
have encountered.
I am also frustrated
with the 40 minute breaks
between classes that I have
faced twice a day for three
of the four quarters that I
have attended at UlCC, an
inconvenience that I will
face again next quarter.
I am certain that many
other students have
encountered the same
problems and share the same
frustrat i ons.
We are all fortunate to
have such a beautiful new
campus, and certainly we
cannot expect to make the
transition from one campus
to the other wi thout
i nconven i ence.
However, it i s my
contention that all
students should share the
burden equally, and that
the scheduling problem
should be put behind us.
Twenty minute class
breaks would correct both
problems.

I t''s al 1 in the name of
progress.
Progress is a good thing,
required for our school and
community to grow.
As we anxiously await the
completion of the North
Campus, let us think of the
sadness of progress, a
sadness relevant not only
to our campus but also to
our community.
Reflect to a time when
the South Campus was new.
Think of the faculty and
staff members whose lives
and careers happened there.
Editorial
To them the South Campus
is and always will be Wayne
Community College.
In our community, we see
what was once farmland
turned into housing devel
opments and shopping
centers.
Progress is a good thing.
We all look forward to
change.
However, with change we
must also look back to our
heritage, our beginnings,
and know regret.
