2 WCC CAMPUS VOICE - FEBRUARY 21, 1996 Because you ask. WCC President Dr. Edward H. \inU8on, Jr., addresses the audience at groundbreaking ceremonies for the new aviation building at the airport. By JAIME WHITFIELD VOICE; How are you doing since your surgery? WILSON: Fine, my recovery has gone quite well. I*m just a little weak at times. VOICE: What can you tell me about Partners in Education? WILSON: Partners in Education was created by the Wayne County Public Schools. WCC is currently partners with Rosewood High School and Goldsboro Middle School. The SGA is helpihg out with tutoring services for the middle school. VOICE: What is your reaction to the letter to the editor that criticized the WCC campus as a potential site for the civic center? The letter stated that only WCC folks would benefit from the Civic Center if it is located on the new campus. WILSON: The writer does not have all the facts. If the proposed civic center is built, all activities that are being discussed have little or nothing to do with WCC so far. VOICE: Exactly where will the civic center be located? VOICE: There has not been a decision made on the location of the Civic Center at this time. [see related story page 4] VOICE: Where will the tennis courts be built? WILSON: The location of the tennis courts has not been decided but will be discussed in a meeting in February. $20,000 will provide tennis courts By JENNIFER SHELTON According to JoAnn Bruce, Director of the WCC Foundation, a special gift of $20,000 by Elmer Crumpler of Pikeville will provide funds for 6 tennis courts to be built on the WCC campus. Crumpler donated $25,000 last year, and his wife Elizabeth Crumpler gave $40,000 the year before for scholarships. WILSON: There is no such thing as a typical day. My days are filled with numerous meetings and conferences having to do with the college and my responsibilities as a active member on the Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce. Dr. f^ed Sproul VOICE: Will any new programs be offered at WCC in the near future? WILSON: WCC is discussing maybe an Allied Health Program and advancement in the Medical Lab Technology Program. VOICE: Are there any changes you would like to see made at WCC? WILSON: WCC needs to provide more computer training for students and computer instruction. More parking room would be nice too. VOICE: Do you foresee the library housed in a separate building in the future, or will it remain in its present location. WILSON: The library will stay in its present location, but it will expand to the 4th floor. Project Enable and The Writing Center will be moved to the new building presently under construction (H Building). VOICE: Do you enjoy your job? WILSON: I love my job; it*s a different adventure everyday. VOICE: What is one of the problems you see among traditional college students today? WILSON: Students today are less serious. They don*t seem to put forth as much effort as I*ve seen in the past.
