Alliance meeting from p. 8 Wilcenski said that consumers have the choice of being "either fat or crazy.” She feels that the mentally ill must be allowed to make their own mistakes; otherwise they are not allowed to be successful. Wilcenski stated that of the 4 times she was in Cherry Hospital she was abused on 3 occas ions. Wilcenski now sits on the Governor's Board of Advocacy Directors. Also at the meeting was Vicki Field, a support group coor dinator and consumer client for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). Field said, "My main job is to keep people out of the hospital." She said one of the main purposes of her job was to "give hope in a hopeless situation." At the end of the meeting, Wilcenski shared a poem, and then refreshments were served. Discussion about starting a group for clients followed the meeting. The meeting opened the eyes of friends and family members of the mentally ill as to what these patients were going through.
