The WCC vol. 11 FaUI Enrollment at all-time high! CAMPUS VOICE Wayne Community College, Goldsboro, NC 27533-8002 October 20, 1998 Unofficial head count at 2947 and rising By SCOTT HERRING The 1998-99 fall semester has brought many faces, about 2947 of them, to the WCC campus. This record high is 295 more than last year's student enrollment and 14 0 more than WCC's former high record of 2807 in 1994, according to Susan Sasser, Registrar. Approximately 55 percent of students are enrolled in the full time program while the other 45 percent is in the part time program. During the past 5 years WCC's enrollment has slowly increased, Sasser said. In 1993 the fall enrollment was 2613. It increased by 2 6 in 1995, by 8 in 1996 and by only 5 in 1997. College officials cited several factors that may influence higher enrollments; increased exposure of college programs through advertising, intensified recruiting efforts, and greater assurance that credits will transfer as a result of the semester conversion. Dori Fraser, recruitment specialist, said the 3 chief sites for recruitment include the base exchange at Seymour Johnson AFB, Berkeley Mall, and the Flea Market. Counselors' visits to local high schools are also an important component of the recruitment effort. She said an effective marketing strategy was the distribution of paper fans in September at the Wayne County Fair to combat the heat. Construction pushes forward to improve access Work in process at the northwest entrance will allow an extra turning lane like that at the east entrance.
