Danny Worley First he learned in automotive program, then he led it By AMANDA HESTAND Staff Writer As Danny Worley enters the building where the automotive program is based, he is greeted warmly. He may have been away for awhile, but people remember him and what he contributed during his years as a faculty member and department head at Wayne Community College. The automotive program first drew him as a student. It was the early 1960s, and WCC was called Wayne Industrial Education Center. Mr. Worley saw enrolling in the program as a move that would help him professionally. After graduating in 1962, he went to work as a technician at the B&R Ford dealership in Smithfield. About four years later, his former instructor called and asked if he would be interested in teaching two night classes. Mr. Worley said yes and, a year later when a full-time job opened, he said yes again. Among them were scheduling annual field trips to car plants across the country and setting up a program for the college with General Motors. Now retired from WCC, Mr. Worley continues to teach, this time at Wake Technical He says he appreciates the time he spent at Wayne Community College. “The college meant a great deal to me,” he says. “It was the foundation of my education.
