CAMPUSVOICE Page 7 ' - ...I Wednesday, December 5,2007 The songs of the Christmas season carry fond memories “Deck the Halls with boughs of holly...’tis the season to be jolly.” Sound familiar? It’s the lyrics from one of the many popular songs of the season. Around this time of year, Christmas songs start playing everywhere, and some people have a favorite with a significant memory attached. What songs appeal to WCC students? “The last Christmas party with my grandma before she passed” is the memory Tommy Vermeulin associates with the song “White Christmas” sung by Bing Crosby. “Silent Night” is Jerry Lawson’s favorite song. He says he is reminded of “the Christmas plays at church.” When Hope Pittman hears “Jingle Bells” she Chad Edge Kyle Alexander thinks of a piano because, “that’s the only song I know how to play on the piano ... it really is,” she says. “Our family spending time together on Christmas Eve,” is what Mari Cruz is reminded of when she hears the song “Holy Night.” “Jingle Bells” makes Kyle Alexander think of singing at his grandma’s house. Stephanie Hubbell Shaletia Woodard has a humorous memory tied to “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” She said, “I had a pimple one time on the middle of my nose Hope Pittman and they used to call me Rudolph and it was right around Christmas time.” Chad Edge remembers watching the “Home Alone” movie when he hears the song “Jingle Bell Rock.” Stephanie Hubbell said rthat her favorite song was “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” When she hears this song she thinks of “singing it in the car.” Cashmere Ruffin Cashmere Ruffm remembers “fun Christmas parties” when the song “Deck the Halls” is playing. Whether it’s a good, emotional or humorous memory, many students have a memory tied with a favorite, popular Christmas song.
