When you close your eyes you
feel like you’re right in front of
your television set, listening to
the music of familiar series that
you enjoy so much: “JAG,”
“Hill Street Blues,” “Magnum
PL,” “Quantum Leap,” “Star
Trek Enterprise” and many
more.
Much of that music has been
composed by Goldsboro native
Velton Ray Bunch.
On April 12, Bunch returned
to his hometown to present that
music in a gala event presented
by The Foundation of Wayne
Community College Arts and
Humanities Programs.
Held in the Dick Moffatt
Auditorium on campus, the
event featured a variety of
television and movie music, as
well as a couple of tunes from
his youth.
The show entertained the
audience so much that they
didn’t notice the time tick by.
Afterwards, in an exclusive
interview with the Campus
Velton Ray Bunch is pictured with his wife, Tina, left, and
artist Brenda Behr with the portrait Ms. Behr painted.
Voice, Mr. Bunch discussed
what has kept him in the music
business.
He smiled as he discussed how
he loves seeing a project come
together and the satisfaction of
it concluding successfully.
One of his biggest successes
was the soundtrack he did for
“Star Trek Enterprise” which
won him an Emmy award.
He also is particularly proud
of music he scored for a movie
about the time that Sen. John
McCain spent in a prisoner of
war camp.
Bunch has seen many changes
in the music industry. One that
concerns him is that many of
today’s musicians don’t have
