Phi Theta Kappa welcomes new members, wins awards The Upsilon Ghi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa academic honors society inducted 40 new members on March 14. Steele Sasser served as guest speaker during the ceremony, which was held in Moffatt Auditorium. Inducted into the chapter were: * Rodney Bailey * Jason Thomas Bone * Alvis Edward Boone, Jr * J.R. Combs * Mary T D’Arco See Inductees on 3 By JESSICA HILL Staff Writer When you close your eyes you feel like you’re right in front of your television set, listening to the music of familiar series that you enjoy so much: “JAG,” “Hill Street Blues,” “Magnum PL,” “Quantum Leap,” “Star Trek Enterprise” and many more. Much of that music has been composed by Goldsboro native Velton Ray Bunch. On April 12, Bunch returned to his hometown to present that music in a gala event presented by The Foundation of Wayne Community College Arts and Humanities Programs. Held in the Dick Moffatt Auditorium on campus, the event featured a variety of television and movie music, as well as a couple of tunes from his youth. The show entertained the audience so much that they didn’t notice the time tick by. Afterwards, in an exclusive interview with the Campus Velton Ray Bunch is pictured with his wife, Tina, left, and artist Brenda Behr with the portrait Ms. Behr painted. Voice, Mr. Bunch discussed what has kept him in the music business. He smiled as he discussed how he loves seeing a project come together and the satisfaction of it concluding successfully. One of his biggest successes was the soundtrack he did for “Star Trek Enterprise” which won him an Emmy award. He also is particularly proud of music he scored for a movie about the time that Sen. John McCain spent in a prisoner of war camp. Bunch has seen many changes in the music industry. One that concerns him is that many of today’s musicians don’t have See Bunch on 10 Phi Beta Lambda members honored WCC-Phi Beta Lambda members won top honors April 10-13 at the 54th Annual State Leadership Conference. The students competed against delegates from 27 North Carolina Universities and Colleges. Winners will represent WCC at this summer’s National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Ga. Joseph Davis received first place in Accounting Analysis and Decision Making and second place in Accounting for Professionals. Joseph Pender received first place in Web Site Development, which included a $100 stipend. and third place in Cyber Security. DeAndre Lewis and Betty Williams took home first place in Network Design. DeAndre also took home third place in Computer Concepts and Betty received fifth place in Telecommunications. Phillip Parry placed second in Management Analysis and Decision Making. He also placed third in Accounting Principles. Jeremy May placed third in Job Interview and was elected the state Eastern Region vice president.
