Student Center Established
The students at WCC have
been asking for a student center.
With the help of the faculty and
the student government associa
tion we have been able to carry
out their request.
The possibility of the student
center was brought before the
student government and steps
were taken to investigate possible
locations for the center. One of
the possibilities was alargetwo-
story house located directly be
hind the administration building.
The student government though
this house would meet the needs
of the students being that it was
well located and offered adequate
space for the student's social
life and study. The owner of
the house, Mr. Paul Orsborne,
was contacted by members of
the student government. Mr. Ors
borne agreed to rent the house
to the college and to do necessary
repair work.
The student government agreed
on this location and took the final
step of taking the proposal to
Dr. Thompson. After final ap
proval was given by him, the
student government went imme
diately to work. Companies were
contacted for drink, sandwich,
candy, pastry, and cigarette ma
chines plus a juke box all to be
located in the center. The food
machines will be set up in one
room and the juke box will be in
a separate room with space for
dancing. Other rooms will be set
aside for study and relaxation.
The student government asso
ciation had a “Wipe and Paint
Party* Friday and Saturday,
November 3 and 4. Class as
semblies were called for the
purpose of organizing commit
tees to work at this worthwhile
and needy social event. Inside
and outside clean-up committees
were organized plus apaintcom
mittee to repaint the inside of
the house.
We have the building. Now it is
up to you, the full and part-time
students of Wilkes Community
College to make it what you wish.
