PAGE 2, THE COUGAR CRY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1968 Opportunities At WCC WCC Anthropology Class Takes Archeological Hike On August 24 and 25, 1968, members of the Cultural Anthropology class of Wilkes Community College undertook an archaeological expedition to an Indian campsite on the C. Lipe Barrier Farm in South Cabarrus County, North Carolina. The purpose of the expedition was to determine the nature of the Indian culture that had occupied the campsite. Members of the expedition were Beth Fos ter, Sam Davis, Jr., Larry Hamby, Robert Rice, Floyd Rogers, Cynthia Mayes, and D.S. Mayes. Various members of the class were responsible for the many aspects of the expedition. Upon arriving at the site, an initial survey and photographing of the area was undertaken to insure accurate recording of all data accumulated. The actual excavation revealed many rock scrapes of two dis tinct sizes and types within the same grid. All information ac cumulated thus far indicated that this site was a campsite-work shop area of a temporary nature. However, excavation is too im- complete to make more than a brief guess of its true purpose. Further excavation and expedi tions will be undertaken by the college in the future. ^cuaa/i THE VOICE OF WILKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE Wilkesboro, North Carolina EDITOR John Kirk STAFF To Be Selected FILL THIS SPACE JOIN THE COUGAR CRY STAFF Occupational Employment opportunities of tomorrow are being made avail able by continuing education in the Occupational Programs.
