OPEN HOUSE HELD AT NEW WCC CAMPUS
Large Crowds
View Campus
The WCC campus was open for
public inspection on May 4 and
11 from 2:00 until 6:30 p.m.
According to John V. Idol,
Dean of Student Personnel, there
were upwards of one thousand
visitors to the new campus each
day. There were visitors from
Wilkes and surrounding counties,
as well as Greensboro and Win-
ston-Salem.
Dean Idol said the visitors’
response to the new campus was
overwhelmingly favorable. Most
of the visitors expressed their
surprise at finding such mod
ern, well-planned facilities.
Idol went on to say that many
high school-aged students voiced
their approval of the campus,
saying that they intended to con
tinue their education at WCC.
Dean Idol said he felt the good
impression made on these stu
dents and their parents would
be very beneficial toward the
growth of WCC.
“Open House** is to be held
again on Sunday, May 18, from
2:00 until 6:30 p.m. All those
who have not had the chance to
visit the WCC campus are in
vited to attend.

Students Treated
To Dances
Students at Wilkes Community
College were treated to two danc
es, one sponsored by the Annual
Staff and the other sponsored
by the Student Government As
sociation.
On May 1 the Annual Staff*s
dance was held in the Student
Commons. The Turks played to
a crowd of lively students and
teachers. The dance, lasting 8:00
p.m. until 12:00, saw very good
participation and it was quite
evident that everyone had a good
time.
The next Thursday night, an
other dance was held at the Na
tional Guard Armory. This
dance, sponsored by the SGA
was also an 8 til 12 affair and
was open to all the high school
students in the surrounding area.
Music was provided by the Ver-
satiles of Winston-Salem. Again,
turnout was very good, and the
students should be commended on
their active participation. Al
though it was a gathering to have
fun, the spirit and interest shown
by students and faculty was al
most fantastic compared to that
of past classes at WCC.

Thought For
Today
We accept without question Rod
McKevin as a poet, Andy Warhol
as an artist, Hugh Hefner as a
philosopher, Dwight Eisenhower
as a statesman and Jane Fonda
as an actress, and we ask, “Why
is there so much mediocrity
in our society.**

The Crucible
Nears Completion
On Wednesday night the Col
lege Theatre of Wilkes Commu
nity College will present Arthur
Miller*s THE CRUCIBLE.
This play should be interest
ing and entertaining for any and
all persons. The play has sev
eral good merits including an
excellent script that is very per
tinent to today’s society. To
emphasize this the play will be
done in modern dress. Another,
interesting aspect of the produc
tion is that it will be done com
pletely in the round. The purpose
of this is to involve the aud
