THE COUGAR CRY, JANUARY 27, 1971, PAGE 3 Clubs And Oraamzations The S.G.A. held its 19th regu lar meeting on Tuesday, January 5, 1970. The office has been mov ed four doors down the hall from its previous location. A Christmas dance sponsored by the S.G.A. This included find ing an appropriate location, date, and a group to entertain. We also printed and sold tickets, regis tered outside dates, and cleaned up after the dance. The S.G.A, was also respon sible for the elections held to choose Miss Cougar, Miss WCC, Miss Technical, and Miss Col lege Parallel. Nominations were held and then the girls were voted on. S.G.A, located cars for Mill Cougar and Miss WCC to ride in the Christmas parade. The WCC S.G.A, will be host to the Winter Conference of S.G,A. officers to be held at WCC in February. Plans for the interclub coun cil and intro-mural games are now being discussed. The cou gar Bus is to be sold, and any one interested in buying it may contact an S.G.A. member. S.G.A. members are also me mbers of the Advisory Council which meets with Dr. Thompson once a month. Anyone who has a suggestion for the S.G.A, may contact a me mber to have it brought up in the next meeting. Circle K The Circle K Club of Wilkes Community formed an auxiliary organization, the Keyettes with All In Data Bank^ Thanks To Mr. Austell The old drudgery of having to search several places to find information about a student is now over, thanks to Mr. Joseph Austell, director of the Voca tional and Technical Departments at WCC. Mr. Austell found a way to oc cupy himself over the Christ mas holidays. He has made a computer listing of names of all persons registered in credit pro grams: technical, college trans fer, and vocational. Arranged al phabetically and classified by curriculum, the list contains all information that is to be found in the official register. Information about a student can be secured quickly and eas ily. It will also assist in keeping track of a student’s progress in school. Wanda Miller elected President; Betty Pipes, Vice President; Ba rbara Lankford, Secretary; Pat ty Greene, Treasurer. Jim Crumpler was accepted as a new member of Circle K. In October, Gary Church, Jeff Shoemaker, Frank Day, and Dan ny Oakley represented the Circle K Club of WCC at a Conference at North Carolina Wesleyan Col lege at Rocky Mount. There they exchanged ideas for projects, better harmony between the Cir cle K Club and the sponsoring Kiwanis Club, ways of increas ing membership and problems of each club. There the Circle K Club of Wilkes Community College was recognized as one of the best clubs in the state. Also, in the Conference, the date of the Cir cle K Annual Convention was sc heduled in March at Winston- Salem. Before Christmas, club mem bers sold fire alarms for its monthly project and a party for the Circle K members and the Keyettes at the Junior Women’s Club in North Wilkesboro. JOANN HOLBROOK Miss College Transfer MISS MARY MEED Teaches Data-Processing Miss Meed Teaches P-P Wilkes Community College is happy to welcome Mary Meed to the faculty as a part-time in structor in the Data Processing Department. Miss Meed will be teaching E D P 207 and Business Pro gramming II (COBOL) here at the college on Mondays and Wed nesdays. She is a resident of Elkin where she is employed by the Chatham Manufacturing Company as a programmer anal yst. Mary has worked for Chatham for three years, but before her employment there she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in India where she was a science teacher in a village school. Miss Meed is a graduate of the University of North Caro lina at Greensboro where she received a degree in physics. She will be a welcome addi tion to our family of instructors. Automobile traveling is getting to be a calculated risk. Buy Chocolate Bars And Help Phi Beta Lambda By DFANNE RIDDLE The Phi Beta Lambda of Wilkes Community College is starting its fund raising drive with a candy sale. Members are selling the Cherrydale Farms Toasted Almond Milk Chocolate Bars and cans of Old Fashioned Virginia Peanut Crunch. Part of the proceeds from this candy sale will be used to help finance the field trips we have planned for this spring, one of which is the annual machines showing in Charlotte. The PBL is conducting ano ther membership drive. Anyone interested in joining is asked to contact Sammy Stone, Mrs. Tug- man, or Mrs. Hayes. Mr. Johnson (Continued from Page One) Mr. Johnson is the Vice-Presid ent of The Northwestern Bank, specializing in expansion prog rams. In discussing his new role of teacher, Mr. Johnson indicated to Joseph Austell, director of occupational programs, that the students that he is currently in association with are highly mo tivated young men who are eager to get into industry and business organizations. Wilkes Community College is indeed fortunate to have obtained the services of such an outstand ing leader in the area of busi ness and banking. Mr. Johnson resides in Elkin, North Carolina, where he has been a leader of the community programs over the past years.
