Play Is A Success
RICK CARTER AS THE ARCHBISHOP
The Drama Department of
Community College out
did itself’'\»th the production
of Peter Ustinov’s play, “Ro
manoff and Juliet” Dec. 7-11.
The play, a satire on diplomacy,
centered on a very small, but
strategically located European
country. The Russians and
Americans both compete to
gain the country as an ally. Mr.
Dewey Mayes, the director,
termed the play “an exercise in
frivolity.” “There is not a
serious moment in it,” he add
ed.
Well, maybe there wasn’t a
serious moment in it, but the
players exhibited no lack of
seriousness in their attempts to
perform well. Ustinov himself
coul4 hardly have eclipsed Bill
Moffett in his role as The Gen
eral. Lori Netzer, too, was
near perfect in her portrayal of
the woman^ who although the
wife of a Russian ambassador,
still has a touch of the peasant
in her. Particularly good also
was Monty Hamby in a carica
ture of the snooping Russian
spy. The rest of the obviously
talented players were: James
Russell, Phil Edwards, Nick
Bennett, Dick Sloop, Gregg
Caldwell, Kay Greer, Jane Reid,
Mary Chappell, Carlton Jones,
Jr., and Rick Carter.
Not only the cast, but also
the technical staff deserves a
word of commendation for the
job they did with this produc
tion.
