WCC Slips In Fourth Quarter
Wilkes Community College
played a very good game
against Gaston College last
Wednesday night at Lincoln
Heights, but the Cougar’s at
tack fell short. The Cougars
made a fine showing until the
last quarter when the Gaston
team rallied to finish the game
victorious.
Coach Linney told the
COUGAR CRY that he believes
Gaston Tech has the potential
to win the conference. Gaston
has a pretty good offense as
well as a tight defence and,
overall, post a real threat. The
statistics for the Cougars show
that Steve Johnson led the

Cougars with seventeen points.
Jr. Jackson was next with
twelve, followed by J. P. Par
sons with eight points, Dave
Myers with ten, Rick Gardner
with five, Anthony Hill with
four, and Roger Billings with
two points.
The Cougars now stand one
and one overall. Coach Linney
feels that his team is shaping
up now and that their perform
ance will continue to improve
as time progresses. The Coc-
gar’s next home game will be
in the YMCA Jan. 7th at eight
o’clock. Come out and support
your Cougars.

MarhMs Monologue
The song second to none this
issue has been in the charts
for a solid twelve weeks, and it
is a popular request. The cut
is from Cher, the better half of
the Sonny and Cher duo, and
is that ringing sovmd “Gypjsies,
Tramps and Thieves.” The
number two spot on the WCC
Top-Ten is a mixed breed; a
young lady by the name of
Melany has mixed a little bit
of “bubble gmn” with the
bouncy sound associated with
the 30’s and 40’s, and has come
up with “A Brand New Key.”
The number three spot is filled
by a group that has been
around for several years, Three
Dog Night, with the predicted
gold sound of “An Old Fashion
Love Song.” Moving right
along, we come to the number
four slot, which is filled by The
Grass Roots with “Two Divided
By Love.” The half-way slot
on this edition’s countdown is
held by another song that is
both an oldie and a popular re
quest. “Have You Seen Her?”
by the Chi-Lites is anchored in
this position.
The number six spot is filled
by John Lennon and the Plastic
Ono Band’s newest release,
“Imagine.” The theme song
from that super SOUL flick
“Shaft,” as sung by Isaac
Hayes, holds down the number
seven spot. The popular re
quest song by Bread, “Baby I’m
I Want You,” is riding well in
eighth place. Sly and The
Family Stone has come up with
a potentially big one after sev
eral months of inactivity. Their
new one, “Family Affair,” has
already soared into the number
one position on the BILL
BOARD charts, and it is cur
rently number nine at WCC.
Meanwhile, the low man on the
“totem pole” is Cat Stevens
with “Peace Train.”
There are no concerts coming
up in this area at the present
time, so I’ll use this space to
invite you to attend the Christ
mas Dance, and to wish all the
readers and their families a
very Merry Christmas and the
Happiest of New Years.
