WELCOME STUDENTS
NEW PERSONNEL
DR. WILLIAM F. SNTDKB
Dr. William F Snyder is an
instructor for the Industrial
Management Technology Pro
gram. His main thrust this
academic year will be a busi-
ness-industry survey of the
College Administrative area to
determine the needs relative to
human resources for the sev
eral businesses and industries.
Dr. Snyder wiU also concern
himself with the Consortial ac
tivities of the College.
Dr. Snyder received his
Bachelor of Science from Ap
palachian State University, his
Master of Arts Degree from
Wake Forest College, and his
Doctor of Education Degree
from North Carolina State Uni
versity in Community College
Administration.
He has served as a teacher
in public junior and senior high
schools, as an instructor at the
North Carolina Govemdr’s
School, and has been employed
in a number of jobs in business
and industry. Recently, he
served as Director of Occupa-
eional Education at Forsyth
Technical Institute.
At Appalachian State Univer
sity, Dr. Snyder was President
of the Religious Council and
the Southern Region of Beta
Beta Beta. He was a member
of the Wesley Foundation, Pi
Ganuna Mu, Chi Lambda Chi,
and was listed in Who’s Who
in American Colleges and Uni
versities. He graduated Cum
Laude.
His professional activities
have included active participa
tion in the North Carolina Oc
cupational Director’s Associa
tion, the American Association
of Community and Junior Col
leges, and the North Carolina
Vocational Assocaition. Dr.
Snyder has also been elected
to the membership of the Hon
or Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
He is a member of Pine
Grove Metiiodist Church and
has served as Simday School
teacher. Chairman Council of
Ministries, and District Stew
ard.
Dr. Snyder is married to the
former Wilma Jones. They
have two children, Kelly, 13
and Lucinda, 9. They are
presently residing in Winston-
Salem, North Carolina.

While at Western she was an

ment and worked as a coun
selor there. Mrs. Poston has
also worked in the Human Re
lations Workshop for teachers
in the southwestern part of

Frederick W. Townes, IV is
an = instructor, of Horticulture
Tedinology.
Mr. Townes graduated from
George Washington High.
School in Virginia and received
his Associate in Horticulture
from North Carolina State Uni
versity.
While attending North Caro
lina State University, he was a
member of the Horticulture
Club, Forestry Club, Outing
Club, Swim Team, and Circle K
Club.
Before coming to Wilkes
Community College, Mr.
Townes was a greenhouse man
ager for Petty’s Greenhouses in
Danville and a landscape fore
man for a firm in Raleigh.
Mr. Townes is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frederick W. Townes,
III of Danville, Virginia. He
attends the First Baptist
Church of North Wilkesboro.
CHERTL POSTON
A new face to light the halls
of WCC is that of Mrs. Cheryl
Poston, new counselor for the
Office of Student Services.
Mrs. Poston’s job is one of
dealing with the problems that
we have as students (both so
cial and academic). Mrs. Pos^
ton’s personal hope in this job
is to become a friend and ad
visor to all the students. From
the short time she has been
with WCC this summer it is
obvious that she is really inter
ested in students, and when
she says, “My office is always
open,” one knows she means it.
Mrs. Poston graduated from
Celeste Henkel High School in
Statesville. She attended Pfief-
fer College before transferring
to the University of North Car
olina at Charlotte where she re
ceived a Bachelor of Arts De
gree. Mrs. Poston taught for

tion in ’69. Since that time she
has attended Appalachian and
has worked as librarian at Fair-
plains and then at Roaring
River Elementary School.
While at Roaring River, she
was a booster for the effort
which led the school and com
munity to recognition in the
statewide Beautification Con
test. The movement, headed
by Miss Johnson’s gocd friend,
Janet Haigh, merited praise
from the governor and a win
ner’s plaque.
A cake decorating course
taught by Miss Betty Wallace
inspired Miss Johnson’s hobby
of cake decorating. Other hob
bies she enjoys are cooking,
sewing, and taking long walks.
Which brings us to explain the
sparkle and sparkler alluded to
in the beginning: Miss John
son is engaged to marry our
audio - visual technician, Mr.
Gary McNeil.

Miss Simmons is the execu
tive secretary of the Life
Sciences Division. She is a
graduate of Elkin High School
and Wilkes Community Col
lege. She is tlie daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny E. Sim
mons of Elkin. Miss Simmons
is a member of Pentecostal
Holiness Church in Jonesville.
Mrs. Williams is the execu
tive secretary to the Director
of Guidance Services. She is a
graduate of Morganton High
School and Western Piedmont
Community College. Before
coming to WCC, Mrs. Williams
was employed by Western
Piedmont Community College
and by the Northwestern Bank
of North Wilkesboro.
She is married to Mr. Jim
D. Williams of Northwestern
Security Life. Mrs. Williams
is a member of Grace Episcopal
Church in Morganton.
Miss Johnson is the secretary
for the Office of Planning and
Development. She is a gradu
ate of Wilkes Central High
School and Wilkes Community
College. While a student at
WCC, she was a member of Phi
Beta Lambda, elected Miss
Cougar, and was listed in Who’s
Who Among Students in Amer
ican Junior Colleges.
She is the daughter of Mr.

Dr. Howard E. 'Thompson,
President of Wilkes Commun
ity College, announced today
the appointment of Mrs. Jane
Johnson, Miss Shirley Glass,
Mr. Coot Gilreath, Jr., and Mr.
BSac Warren as Counselor Asso
ciates for the Office of Student
Services.
Mrs. Johnson is a graduate of
East Wilkes High School and
Wilkes Community College.
Slie is married to Harold Dean
Johnson and they live in Ron-
da. North Carolina. She is a
member of Arbor Grove Baptist
Church.
Miss Glass is a graduate of
Wilkes Central High School
and Wilkes Community College.
While a student at WCC, s4ie
was a member of Phi Beta
Lambda, elected Miss WCC,
and was listed in Who’s Who
Among Students in American
Junior Colleges.
She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. L Glass of North
Wilkesboro. Miss Glass is a
member of Antioch Baptist
Church and serves as a Sunday
School teacher,
Mr. Gilreath is a graduate of
Lincoln Heights High School
and Wilkes Community Col
lege. Before coming to WCC,
he was an industrial engineer
at Chatham Manufacturing
Company. Mr. Gilreath is also
Pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist
Church in North Wilkesboro.
He is married to the former
Rosalind Petty and they have
one child, Gregory, 10. They
reside in Roaring River.
Mr. Warren is a graduate of
North Wflkes High School and
Wilkes Community College. He
was an Infantry NCO in the
United States Army and receiv
ed a Bronze Star Medal.
While a student at WCC, Mr.
Warren was a member of Phi
Beta Lambda, listed in Who’s
Who Among Students in Amer
ican Junior Colleges, and work
ed with Dr. Phillip E. Lewis in
Educational Research.
He is married to the former
Betty Byrd and they live in
Traphill, North Carolina. Mr.
Warren is a member of Trap
hill Baptist Church and serves
as a Simday School Superin-
tendrat and Deacon.
