the society of the future.
The Cougar Cry staff wishes
all of you success in the future

helping to make our school bet

For Crown
Phi Beta Lambda and the
Student Government Associa
tion of Wilkes Conmiunity Col
lege will be sponsoring Home
coming for 1974, Friday, Febru
ary 8, at the Wilkes YMCA. The
presentation of the Homecom
ing Court and the crowning of
the queen will be the high
lights.
On January 22, 1972, the first
homecoming celebration in the
history of WCC was held. The
basketball game featured the
Cougars vs. the Mitchell Junior
College Rebels of Statesville.
During halftime. Miss Peggy
Byers was crowned queen by
Dr. Howard E. Thompson, Pres
ident of Wilkes Community
College. Miss Evelyn Bailey
of Statesville was the maid of
honor. The ladies of the court
SANDY BROOKS
were Miss Carol Gentry, Miss
Kay Miller, Miss Sandy Jones,
Miss Judy Carroll, Miss Cathy
Blevins, and Miss Shirley
Glass.
Miss Jennifer White was the
Homecoming Queen of 1973,
and her maid of honor was
Miss Barbara Russell.
Ballgames, queens, and
dances, as a celebration for
WCC, thus started the tradition
for Wilkes Commimity College
Homecoming.
This year’s halftime festivi
ties promise to be the most ex
citing ever. The presentation
of the queen and her court will
be made more spectacular as
LINDA DuVALL
the Cougarettes and Pep Band
perform.
From sophomores pictured
above will come the queen,
maid-of-honor, and two attend
ants. Freshman attendants will
be Diane Whittington, Linda
Shaffner, Jeannine Hutchens,
and Kathy Greene.
