THE VOICE OF WILKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE
VOLUME 8 — NO. 8
WILKESBORO, NORTH CAROLINA
MAY 30, 1978

...And a good time was had by
all! Especially Robert Johnston,
Pete Mann, Bud Mayes, and Bill
Scarborough-or so it seemed as
they were dunked repeatedly in
the Dunking Booth provided by
the Ye Hosts Club. It appeared to
be quite refreshing as the sun
shone brightly and the tempera
ture climbed to 85 degrees F.
during the noon hours.
As the bands played, some
couples strolled lazily arm in arm,
lolled about on the grass, and
sprawled upon blankets scattered
around, while the more energetic
participated in various games.
Refreshments were available in
the form of cold drinks sold by
the Math Club, Hot Dogs,
and Hamburgers sold by the
Circle K, and ice cream sold by
Phi Beta Lambda.
The 100 yard dash, sack race,
and egg throw had to be canceled
as thundershowers appeared
about 3:00 P.M. The unexpected
rain forced everyone into the
Student Commons where the
festivities continued unabated
until about 6:15 P.M.
The highlight of the day was the
Battle of the Bands. The medley
of Country, Blue Grass, and
Rock satisfied everyone’s musical
preference. Nightbird was jud
ged as the number one band, with
a prize of $400. Second place
winner was Jack, with a purse of
$200. Steel City Exit won $100.
for a third place prize. The prize
money came from the SGA, who
worked diligently to arrange the
Spring Fling.
Aside from the primary
purpose of giving everyone a
break from the monotony of the
Spring quarter, the Fling also
provided an excellent opportunity
for the making of the film,
“W.C.C., The Peoples’ Colley,”
a film being prepared by Wilkes
Community College. The events
filmed, in the midst of fun and
frolics, show the real nature of
W.C.C. students, staff, and
faculty-truly a wonderful, fun-
loving, extra nice group of people.
The Fling should happen more
often, Spring or not!
