Meet The
President
BY DONNA CARDWELL
Dr. David E. Daniel is our
President at Wilkes Community
College and, judging by his
performance since being ap
pointed July, 1977, he is also an
outstanding one.
Dr. Daniel is co-author of
“Profile of Student in North
Carolina Community Colleges
and Technical Institutes” and has
written many articles for educa
tional journals. Prior to his
selection as WCC president. Dr.
Daniel was Dean of Instruction at
Isothermal Community College in
Spindale and Administrative Vice-
President of Louisburg College.
He is also active in community
and church activities.
The president received a
Bachelor of Arts Degree at
Furman University.He earned the
Master of Divinity Degree at
Colgate Rochester Divinity
School, and the Doctor of
Education Degree at North
Carolina State University.
Dr. Daniel is married to the
former Ivor Gayle (Dee-Dee)
Blanton of Gaffney, South
Carolina. The Daniel’s have one
son, Jody, graduate of Glade
Valley School.
Upon accepting the appoint
ment of WCC President Dr.
Daniel stated, “Wilkes Commun
ity College is one of the
outstanding community colleges
in the state and region.My family
and I are indeed fortunate to have
this opportunity. We are excited
about our responsibilities and
about being citizens of the “Great
State of Wilkes”.
“Got to have one of my teeth
extracted,” said the fat man to his
dentist.
“Which tooth?”
“My sweet tooth.”

Welcome to Wilkes Community
College! Everyone who works
here has anticipated your arrival
and is anxious to be of assistance.
Here you will find open doors,
many opportunities, and new
friends .We hope that you will take
full advantage of these days at
Wilkes Community College. We
have several new programs which
are already enriching our program
offerings. Human Resources De
velopment and Cooperative Edu
cation began operation on July 1.
Students who are working full or
part-time should see Donalee
Davis about Cooperative Educa
tion .This program shows students
how to earn academic credit while
working in jobs which are related
to their program of study.
The Technical Arts Building is a
fine addition to our physical
facilities. During the summer
many of our personnel have
moved to other locations as a
result, occupying the new build
ing.

Auditions For
Hamlet Set For
September 6-7
Auditions for the College
Theatre’s Fall production of
William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”
will be held September 6 and 7
from 7 until 9 pm in the Teaching
Auditorium in Thompson Hall.
Bud Mayes, Director of the
College Theatre, stated that no
special preparation is necessary
for the auditions. Actors, actres
ses, and dancers are needed.
There are many males roles to be
filled.
