The Spring Fling will be held on Friday, April the 11th. Classes will be called off at 11:00. There will be two bands, Badge and Bluegrass Anonymous. Every club on campus will have an activity planned or a booth set up. The SGA is hoping everyone will come out and participate because your activity fee is paying for the Spring Fling. If you have any I Badge is a five man band made up of Southern Rock ’n Rollers. The group is from Wilmington, NC and they are, “Ready to hit Wilkes County wide open.” The group’s leader is Gary Epherson. Their selection of songs include groups such as: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels and many original tunes written by Badge members. Badge has appeared in the Charlotte area including Boardwalk. They are an excitement generating band. We hope this is enough to arouse your musical interests and that we’ll see all of you at the “Fling.” President's Message suggestions let us know. Our meetings are on Tuesdays, at 12:30, in room 312. We would like to hear from you. Dee Sullivan The community college is here to stay. Most persons who enter postsecondary institutions for training do so in one of the nation’s public community col leges. In other words, persons now realize that the local community college has a variety of low-cost, quality programs which are accessible to them. Consequently the public commun ity college is increasingly the first choice of students. The result in North Carolina is that some 500,000 individuals are currently enrolled in one or more courses in the Community College System. So important to our state is this comprehensive system that an unparalleled industrial growth would not have been possible without it. Without question the system has helped to raise the quality of life of our citizens. More adults now read, plan, and compute better. Their money is spent in more justifiable ways. Our appreciation of the arts is keener and our participation in the creative use of time has resulted in expressions of health and well-being. In short, the Com munity College System has brought a new dimension to our society which should be continual ly expanded. The people who represent us in the legislature and here at home should be reminded of this great community asset. As we face the new fiscal year we hope that increasing numbers of people will mention their appreciation of the college to office holders who decide about our budget. In order for us to serve better we must be adequately supported. The most infiuential person to say some thing positive about the college is you. Do it today... Bluegrass Anonymous The group Bluegrass Anony mous will be performing at the Spring Fling. This group was the State Bluegrass champion in 1979. With a name like Bluegass Anonymous you would think that no one knows the members but Graduation On May 23, 1980 approxi mately 250 students will receive diplomas or degrees from the many programs offered at Wilkes Community College. A number of these students, however, have not been by the Office of Student Services to have a progress check and place their orders for degrees. The registrar urgently requests that anyone in this category come by within the next week, so that a supplementary degree order can be made immediately to insure that degrees are received by graduation day. Do it now and avert disappointment. that isn’t true. The members of the band are very well known throughout the State to anyone who knows Bluegrass music. The members are: Chris Bryant, Banjo; Randy Carter, Guitar; Randall Couch, Bass; and Opie^ Poindexter, Mandolin. They use no electrical instruments and are of the purest form of Bluegrass. Come out to the “Fling” and find out just how great Bluegrass music really is. ? ? ? uuu UULi yuu yuL Upcoming Election The 1980-81 SGA and Sopho more officers will be elected on April 22 and 23.
