Outdoor Concert
On Sunday afternoon, May 4,
the Wilkes Community-College
Symphony will present a FREE
pops concert starting at 3:00 P.M.
The Symphony will perform
outside in front of Hayes Hall on
the WCC campus.
Everyone is invited to pack a
picnic basket and have dinner on
the ground before the concert and
enjoy this last Symphony concert
of the season. The pops concert
will be the final event of Wilkes
Community College’s Mayfest
which takes place May 2-4 on the
campus. The Symphony concert
will feature popular favorites
from the movies and Broadway as
well as light classics.
In case of inclement weather,
the concert will take place in the
WCC gymnasium.
Veterans’
Assistance
The Veterans’ Readjustment
Benefits Act of 1966 provides
educational assistance for vete
rans who served on active duty
with the Armed Forces after
January 21, 1955.
War Orphan’s Educational
Assistance Act of 1956 entitles a
son or daughter of a veteran who
died of a service-connected dis
ability, or who has a total
disability permanent in nature
arising from a service-connected
disability, to receive benefits from
the Veterans Administration.
Applications for VA benefits
should be made in the Office of
Veterans Affairs or through the
WCC Jazz Ensemble
On Saturday night. May 3, the
College Jazz Ensemble will play
for your dancing pleasure from
9:30 P.M. to midnight in the
Technical Arts Building Gym.
The gym will be transformed into
a Cabaret setting and atmosphere.
The Jazz Ensemble’s music is
exciting, sophisticated, and joy-
local VA representative. The
Office of Veterans Affairs is the
campus clearing house for all
veterans’ affairs.

Playing on campus for a dance
has been one of the goals of the
Jazz Ensemble which will be
realized May 3rd. Paid reserva

Cabaret which begins at 8:15 with
a Broadway Musical Revue,
Dancing from 9:30 P.M. until
midnight, and a Cabaret Buffet at
10:00 P.M. completes the even

Grants, Workstudy and
Scholarships
Financial aid at Wilkes Com
munity College includes funds for
scholarships, grants, loans, and
employment. Sometimes a stu
dent’s financial need is met by a
combination of one or more types
of aid.
When a student applies for
financial aid, he or she may
designate the kinds of aid
preferred. Part-time to full-time
students may be eligible for all
types of financial aid.
1. Basic Educational Opportunity
Grant Program (BEOG) Basic
Grants are federally funded and
there is no specified field of
specialization. The amount of
the grant varies and is based on
a formula which takes into
account the amount you and
your family can contribute to
your education. The award
cannot be greater than one-half
the cost of attending Wilkes
Community College.
2. College Workstudy Program
(CWS) Students earn while they
learn through the College
Workstudy Program. On-cam-
pus work experience, whenever
possible, is related to students’
career objectives. A student us
ually works 5 to 15 hours a
week at the minimum wage of
$3.10 per hour.
3. North Carolina Student Incent
ive Grant Program (NCSIG)
This program is administered
by the College Foundation,
Inc. Funds are provided by the
North Carolina State Educa
tional Assistance authority
under the 1965 Higher Educa
tion Act as amended, from the
State and Federal appropria
tion. To qualify for a NCSIG,
students must complete the
necessary applications for fi
nancial aid, be a legal resident
of North Carolina, accepted for
the enrollment or enrolled in
good standing at an institution
of higher education.
4. Institutional Scholarships
These scholarships are offered
to students attending Wilkes
Community College by local
civic and service clubs, organi
zations, business and industry,
and interested individuals.
They are awards to students
who demonstrate academic
ability and have a realistic need.
Wilkes Community College
students and applicants are
encouraged to check with The

CSF Sponsoring
Music Concert
The CSF is sponsoring a Music
Concert on Tuesday, May 6th
from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the
WCC Auditorium. The Bridge, a
contemporary, Christian, folk-
rock group, will be playing and
singing. Admission will be free
and everyone is invited to attend
either the entire 2 hour concert, or
if you have a class from
12:00-1:00, to come to the second
part of the meeting from
1:00-2:00.
