DAVID DANIEL PRESIDENT From the President I would like to express a very warm welcome to our new and returning learners. We are looking forward to a year of accomplish ment. Everyone on the college staff is very excited about your arrival and are anxiously waiting to assist you in every way possible. You have made a wise decision in selecting Wilkes Community College as your school. Our faculty is well-qualified. Our facilities are excellent. Your presence will provide the needed ingredients to make things happen. Enjoy this school year by Personality Profile To kick off a great fall quarter, the COUGAR CRY has chosen to enhance it’s first fiscal issue with a profile of one of WCC’s most charismatic personalities, David Parker. Here’s the rundown: As a sophomore here at Wilkes, David is beginning his second year of work as our student publica tions photographer. Being a novice with only one year of experience, he has developed a high degree of skill with his 35mm camera and modern dark room equipment. His high professional standards and superior talent have allowed him to utilize his equipment in supplying us with some superb newspaper and annual pictures. As for educational endeavors, David is working in the college transfer program, and is setting his sights on an Associates in Science degree. Subsequent to his attainment of this degree, David hopes to enter NC State University in quest of a BS degree in electrical engineering. He possesses an ultimate goal of a lucrative career with Duke Power Corp. With his fine academic work from last year, David should have no trouble manifesting these plans on his road to success. David also holds the office of Treasurer within the SGA and serves on the Student Government Executive Council. He has an excellent reputation with last year’s SGA and will invariably serve efficiently in the coming year. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting David, make a special effort to do so in the very near future. He is one of the most congenial members of our WCC student body, and is an easy friend to make. He’s really not hard to find either. Just keep an’ eye out for the fellow with the camera around his neck, and the conspicuous trail of ladies following in adoration. Auditions Open auditions for Fall Pro duction of the College Theatre will be held on September 3 and September 4, 1980, beginning at DEBBIE ELLER PRESIDENT JANE GRAY VICE-PRESIDENT BONNIE PHIPPS SECRETARY becoming involved in student activities. Give the college support at athletic games, concerts, plays, dances, etc. Become school leaders by joining the many clubs available at WCC. And, give appropriate time to your studies because your acad emic success is extremely import ant to your future. The benefits of hard work will be realized as long as you live. Again, welcome to WCC! Do not hesitate to call on the administration, facuhy, and staff when you need assistance because we exist only to serve you. DAVID PARKER TREASURER Meet WCC’s SGA Officers The Student Government As sociation here at WCC would like to welcome all freshmen as well as all returning sophomores to the campus. We hope that you will participate in some of the extra curricular activities that are made available to the student. Wilkes has many clubs such as Circle K, Phi Beta Lambda, Ye Hosts, SNEA, Mu Alpha Theta-Math Club, and Organization of Ebony Students to name a few. There are three student publications as well. These are the Decameron which is a literary magazine published every year, the Cougar Cry which is the school newspaper, and The Cougar which is the yearbook. For the more athletic of you, we have several sports activities to participate in. WCC is in the Western Tarheel Conference and we compete with such basketball teams as Lee’s McRae, Brevard Jr. College, and Caldwell Com munity College. If basketball isn’t your game, we also have a tennis and golf team as well as several 7:30 p.m. in the college auditorium, room 131. LEAH PEARSON SOPHOMORE — V.-PRES. MIKE COGDILL SOPHOMORE - PRESIDENT '-U LESA FELTS SOPHOMORE — SECRETARY intramural sports. Of course, if you would like, you can run for an office of the Student Govemmcut Association. Fresh man elections will be held on October 1st and 2nd. The offices that need to be filled are Freshman Class President, Vice- President, Secretary, Treasurer, and four senators. Sophomore elections were held last spring. Debbie Eller was elected SGA President; Jane Gray, SGA Vice- President: David Parker. SGA Treasurer; and Bonnie Phipps, JAMIE CLINE SOPHOMORE — TREASURER SGA Secretary. Sophomore ctiss officers are Mike Cogdill, Presi dent; Leah Pearson, Vice-Presi dent; Jamie Qine, Treasurer; and Leasa Felts, Secretary. Senators are June Brooks, Mark Garret, George Price, and Debbie Eld- reth. All SGA Meetings are held at 1:00 PM every Tuesday in room 808 and anyone can and is encouraged to attend the meet ings.
