DAVID DANIEL PRESIDENT To you, the new and returning students of Wilkes Community College, a very warm welcome. The entire college staff is excited about your arrival, and we are willing and anxious to help you in every way possible. Together, we are looking forward to a year of great accomplishment. Your decision in selecting Wilkes Community College as your school is a wise one. You already have seen that our facilities are both excellent and beautiful. In a short time, you will know also that our faculty is well-qualified, of the highest quality, and eager to serve you. The final ingredient needed to make great things happen is provided by your presence. I am confident that this school year will be enjoyable for you, and you can insure its success by becoming involved in student activities. Become school leaders by joining the many clubs available at WCC, and give the college support at athletic games, concerts, plays, dances, etc. Also, give appropriate time to your studies: your academic success is extremely important to your future. The benefits of hard work will be realized as long as you live. Do not hesitate to call on the administration, faculty, and staff when you need assistance because our purpose and goal is to serve you. Again, welcome to WCC! i STEVE DESAUTELS SGA PRESIDENT The Student Government As sociation would like to welcome all freshmen as well as all returning sophomores to the campus. We encourage you to participate in the extra curricular activities that £U"e made available to the student. WCC has many clubs and organizations such as Circle K, Ye Hosts, Art Club. Mu Alpha Theta, Organization of Ebony Students, and Phi Beta Lambda to name a few. There are three student publications as well. These are the Decameron, a literary magazine published every year; the Cougar Cry, which is the student newspaper; and The Cougar which is the yearbook. We also have several sports LEN BROYHILL SGA VICE-PRESIDENT activities to participate in. WCC has a basketball team, tennis team, and a golf team as well as several intramural sports. Of course, we also have the Student Government Association. We encourage you to run for an office. The dates for Freshman Elections will be announced at a later date. The offices that need to be filled are Freshman Class President, Vice-President, Trea surer, Secretary, and four sena tors. Sophomore elections were held last spring. Steve Desautels was elected SGA President; Len Broyhill, SGA Vice-President; Johnny Spicer, SGA Treasurer; and Lana Chambers, SGA Secretary. Sophomore Class Of- LANA CHAMBERS SGA SECRETARY ficers are Janet Lael, President; Mike Carlton, Vice-President; and Tonyia Woodie, Secretary. Senators are Carlton Absher, Julius Parsons, Eugene Rash, and Jerry Saner. Meetings are held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays in room 808 and anyone can and is encouraged to attend the meet ings. Auditions for Annie Get Your Gun JOHNNY SPICER SGA TREASURER YEARBOOK PICTURES Pictures for Yearbooks will be taken on: Tuesday, Sept. 1 All Freshmen Wednesday, Sept. 9 All ^phomore & Night Students Auditions for Annie Get Your Gun will be held on Thursday, September 3, and Friday, Sep tember 4, at 8 p.m. in The College SGA SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS Auditorium. Acting and singing auditions will be held on Thursday, September 3. Dancing auditions will be on Friday, September 4. Scripts of the show are on reserve in The College Library. Those wishing to audition for a singing role should have a song ready to perform. An accompanist will be provided. Dancers should come dressed appropriately. Annie Get Your Gun is a rolicking musical comedy about Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. Some of the songs from the show are “There’s No Business Like Show Busi ness,” “Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly,” “The Girl That I Marry,” “You Can’t Get a Man With a Gun,” “They Say It’s Wonderful,” “I Got the Sun in the Morning,” and many others. Anyone interested in working on technical crews should also come to the auditions to sign up.
