Here at Wilkes Community College, we are fortunate to have over 60 full time and over 200 part-time instructors, each highly qualified, dedicated, and willing to go that extra mile to prepare our students for the world of work. You’ll learn about the world of work right here at Wilkes Community College from those that care"about your future. Educational Loans Available Welcome Freshmen As the new school year begins, you will experience a vast variety of changes in your life. You’re on your own now with no parents to guide you. Your teachers don’t push you to do the work, as in high school, you’re expected to have your own self- discipline to do the work and study for the tests and make the grade. Watching the sophomores make their way easily about the campus will make you a bit timid, but never fear; they were once freshmen too. The sophomores will be more than willing to help you find your way — just ask! As the first day of class begins and the teacher walks in all stern and serious, your heart will fall, sweat will begin to pour, you ask yourself "Why am I here?” But then the teacher speaks and you are slapped in the face with the reality that he/she is human and happens to be very nice. If you think you are the only one who feels this way — don’t! There are several other new students here who have the same doubts and fears. As you adjust to college life in the first week, you will soon realize that it’s not so bad after all. You will make lots of new friends and maybe even find your "true love.” Kelly Hobbs A Helpful Source Each year, new students find there is no escaping the library. It is impos sible to attend college and not make use of the resources in the library. Most people are afraid of it. It is the unknown. But, there is hope. At the beginning of the quarter there will be times set up during the day for people to come visit the library. The librarian will show you around and help you learn how to use the library and its resources. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the library. It is a helpful source that you will use almost daily in your college life. Kelly Hobbs Thought For The Day "Your attitude will determine your altitude.” It will determine how far you go in school, how successful you are, how much money you make, where you live, who your friends are, etc. So, guard your attitude with your life; it will make or break it.
