Prime Plus Credit Card With an annual percentage rate of only 8.9%, Wachovia’s credit card option, Prime Plus, now carries one of the lowest credit card interest rates available anywhere. The Prime Plus option was intro duced to consumers last fall at a rate of 11.9% established by adding 2.9% to the Prime rate at that time. The new rate reflects subsequent Prime rate drops to the current 6%. This variable rate option is available on Visa and MasterCard regular and gold credit cards issued through Wachovia. An nual fees for Prime Plus are $39 for the regular card and $49 for the gold card. Anyone applying and approved for a Prime Plus card by November 30 will receive a $50 credit toward the first month’s charge. "We are quite pleased with consu mer reaction to this variable-rate alternative to conventional bank card financing,” said L.M. Baker, Jr., Pres ident and Chief Executive Officer of Wachovia Bank of North Carolina. "It offers consumers a truly conve nient and flexible method of reducing credit card expenses, particularly for those individuals who regularly carry a balance on their credit card accounts. Prime Plus is another example of Wachovia’s commitment to provid ing its credit card customers with some of the most competitive options available in the banking industry.” The Prime Plus interest rate is set at 2.9% above the Prime rate as pub lished in "The Wall Street Journal” on the 15th day of each month (or the next business day if the 15 th falls on a weekend or holiday). To apply for the Prime Plus card, call the Wachovia local branch at 667- 9221 or our toll-free number, 1-800- 522-6282, for an application. I’d also like to encourage non-journalism students to consider joining our staff. Aside from working on a top-notch yearbook, you’ll enjoy our up-coming Thanksgiving party, deadline parties, and exchanging of Christmas gifts. It’s no joke that yearbook work demands lots of attention, but ask a staffer and they’ll tell you that the benefits outweigh the burdens. Whether you sign up or not, be sure to buy your yearbook. I promise this one’s going to be different. Don’t miss the memories. Don’t miss the fun!!! Sheryl Monks Push Ideas, Not Force An old Chinese story relates an argument between two men. First, one Chinese presented his points of view; then, the other. The argument continued for over an hour. At times, the sentences be came loud and long as tempers became shorter. Finally, an Englishman, who hap pened to be watching and listening to the discussion, turned to his Chinese companion and boasted, "If that blighter on the left over there address ed me in that tone of voice, I would strike him to the ground with my fist.” His Chinese companion made this observation: "That would prove that you had run out of ideas. Conse quently, you would have lost the argument and you would have lost face or your dignity. Equally impor tant, you would not have changed the mind of the opponent you had knock ed to the ground. Physical force has but limited use in an argument.” Is it not time to push ideas, not fists? A problem is a charux for you to do your best.
