wooinottM's. ^ I »ooL»o«m WCC SGA Members Visit Wool worth’s Lunch Counter On Historical Last Day October 22 twenty-four WCC SGA members, Scarlett Overbay, Scott Hor ton, and Cody Hemrick along with their advisor Kathron Richards attended the Fall N4CSGA Conference in Greensboro, NC. One part of the conference was a cultural enrichment workshop in downtown Greensboro. This was designed to teach students from around the state about the history of Greensboro. Coinci dentally that Saturday was also the last day the lunch counter in Woolworth’s was open. This lunch counter was the scene of an early civil rights protest by A & T students in an effort towards integration. Students signed petitions in favor of preserving the Woolworth’s. The menu that day was hot dogs, coke, and pumpkin pie — all at 1960 prices — lunch was 69 cents. More important than the cheap prices was the lessons the students learned about history happening right in their own backyard. It was truly a trip to remember.
