From Worst To Best Dear Students: Members of Wilkes Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa recently attended their regional con ference in Charleston, SC, and re turned home winners. President Bruce Monks (Nursing), Vice-Presidents Gerald Weaver (COll) and Don Whitten (CO 18), Artist Ray Hill (Business) and his wife Charlie, News letter Editor, Darrell Jefferies, (Elec tronics), and Regional Vice- Presidential Candidate Jason Maloney (COll) braved a six hour van trip driven by Advisors Dr. Barbara "Closet- Wolfpacker” Holt and Dr. Jo "Pass- the-Pizza” Hendrix to attend the con ference. That bravery, along with a year full of hard work and determina tion, was all made worthwhile when the chapter received several impres sive awards: The nationally recognized "Five-Star” Award, Honorable Men tion for Communications, and, most impressively, the "Most Improved Chapter” in North and South Carolina. The delegates somehow found time between attending business meetings and workshops to catch some of the picturesque sights of Charleston, guided by former Charlston-ite Ray Hill. While it can’t be proven, it is widely believed that Dr. Hendrix’s favorite sight was the Italian restau rant Papillion. While Dr. Holt and Gerald saw the sights via rented bicy cles, Bruce, Don, Darrell, and Jason patronized the quaint little eatery Wild Wing. They paid a heavy price for this patronage thanks to the inedibly hot "China Syndrome,” a version of hot wings so hot as to be indescribable. On the final day, our hapless adven turers performed a skit written by Don for the assembled masses. The final of six skits, our players were rewarded for their efforts with a standing ovation and many verbal affirmations of their greatness. All in all, a time very well spent. Sincerely, Donald Duck Basketball Camp Final registration is now being held for the 16th Annual Bryan Adrian Summer Basketball Camp. Boys and girls ages 5 through 18 are eligible. During the last few weeks, we in Phi Theta Kappa, hope that you have noticed the bright yellow signs asking the whole student body to help the Easter Bunny. While many people have dropped things in the collection boxes in front of Dr. Hendrix’s office and the box at Student Support Servi ces, WE NEED MORE!! We are attempting to fill Easter baskets for 80 children at Cub Creek Head Start Center. Most of these children come from low income fami lies that might not otherwise be able to give their children something for Easter. Most are books, coloring books and school supplies that might be over looked by parents who are operating on a tight budget. We also need standard Easter supplies and volunteers to help pack baskets next Tuesday, March 29 atI2:30! Thank you all for supporting Phi Theta Kappa and the children of Cub Creek Head Start Center.
