WCC Begins Registration on Monday, August 29
Wilkes Community College is gearing up for
the start of its fall quarter and would like to
remind everyone in Wilkes County that it’s not
too late to think about college.
WCC has a program for nearly everyone,
including recent high school graduates, busi
ness professionals and hobbyists. There are
also programs for those who want to earn an
adult high school diploma.
Registration begins on Monday, August 29,
for new students. Registration for returning
students is on Tuesday, August 30. Classes
begin August 31.
WCC offers six university parallel, 17 two-
year technical and 11 one-year vocational pro
grams of study to choose from. WCC provides
quality instruction at an affordable cost.
According to WCC President Jim Randolph,
the WCC faculty are "highly qualified and
committed to providing the best education
possible.”
The cost of attending WCC for an in-state
student is $13.25 per credit hour, up to 14
hours - $185.50 maximum. Additional fees
include a $6 per quarter activity fee for stu
dents taking 10 or more hours, a $2 per quarter
parking fee and a $2 per year library/I.D. card
fee.
Financial assistance is available, to those who
qualify, in the form of grants, scholarships and
college work-study programs. The funds may
be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books
and supplies.
Some students may receive additional funds
to cover a portion of their living expenses such
as room, board, transportation, childcare and
personal expenses. Financial aid is also avail
able to those qualifying for the Job Training
Partnership Act (JTPA) and veterans benefits.
For information on financial aid, contact Alan
Whittington at (910) 651-8633.
The Individualized Studies program offers
flexible study times for students who would
otherwise not be able to take a regularly sched
uled class because of work schedules and other
family responsibilities. Special orientation
times have been set up for this on August 31,
September 1,2,6, & 7. For more information,
contact WCC’s Learning Center at (910)
651-8717.
The college offers a wide range of services
and accomodations for disabled students. More
information regarding this may be obtained
from Kaylynn Horn at (910) 651-8635.
WCC has campuses not only in Wilkes
County, but also in Ashe and Alleghany
counties as well.
Dr. Bob Thompson, Dean of Student Develop
ment, invites those who need assistance in
deciding on programs or classes to stop by the
Student Development Office or call (910)
