Wilkes Community College came away with the following awards: 1. First place award in Communi cations 2. The Scholarship Hallmark Award 3. The Phi Theta Kappa Carolinas Distinguished Chapter Award 4. The Five-Star Program Award. This is the highest chapter status award that can be obtained. 5. Honorable Mention Awards were received in Service, Fellowship and Leadership. Members of the local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa who wrote essays and prepared materials for entry in each of the award events were; Bobby Blank enship - Essay on Scholarship, Fel lowship, and Best Use of the Honors Topic, "Science, Humanity, Tech nology: Shaping a New Creation;” Mindy Anderson - An Essay on Lead ership; Patty Canter and Kristee Shumate - An Essay on Service; Shu maila Khan and Sheryl Ransom who assisted with the entries. Advisors are Drs. Jo Hendrix and Barbara Holt. Basketball Program May Be Going To Junior College Level The Wilkes Community College basketball program may be going to Junior College level starting the 1995-96 season. Most all of the other community col leges in our area such as Caldwell, Surry, and Catawba are doing so which puts pressure on WCC to do so as well. The reason being is (continued on page five) Cloud of Despair As my problems grow bigger my cloud of dispair grows darker. This cloud that hangs over my head grows larger day by day and all of the sunshine in my life seems to just fade away. As I fit here all alone, all of the prob lems of the world seem to be mine and mine alone.
