Mindy Hudson
The Drama Department at Wilkes
Community College stays busy all
year round, and it keeps many stu
dents on their toes. These days, one of
the busiest students in the Drama
Department is Mindy Hudson. Mindy
is very active in the production of the
department’s current show, the
musical comedy “Bye Bye Birdie.”
Aside from the exhausting task of
playing the role of Rosie Alberez,
which is one of the leading roles, she
is also the choreographer.
Mindy is in her first year at Wilkes,
and she seems satisfied with the
campus environment and with the
activities available here. In fict, she
chose Wilkes Community College in
order to gain acting experience
through the Drama Department. In
contrast to Wilkes, four-year schools
have very little to offer to freshman
and sophomore students in the way of
leading roles, and Mindy felt that
Wilkes was a better project. She is
currently earning a double major in
Music and Theatre, and she plans to
transfer to Appalachian State Uni
versity to continue these studies.
When she finishes her education.
Mindy hopes to act in the musical
theatre industry.
Even though she is a first year stu
dent, Mindy is already gaining val
uable experience in her profession.
Being the choreographer of “Bye Bye
Birdie” has taught her leadership
skills and has led her to “sympathize
with teachers that have to yell and
scream to get their students’ atten
tion.”
Mindy is also very active in other
activities on campus and in the com
munity. She is a member of the Wilkes
Community College Chorus, and she
is always involved in some capacity
with all the shows performed at
Wilkes, both by students and by out
side organizations. During the
summer of 1995, she worked for
“Horn in the West,” the outdoor
drama held each summer in Boone,
NC. While working in this drama, she
was a alternate in the PR Quartets and
an understudy to the main character.
Widow Howard. Outside of her many
activities in the theatre world, she
teaches Sunday School for four-year-
olds in the North Wilkesboro Pres
byterian Church, and she babysits
frequently.
One thing Mindy feels could be
changed at Wilkes is the support avail
able for the Drama Department. Both
the faculty and the students should
make more of an effort to attend the
performances, and even to be a part of
the production. Just, take it from
Mindy, “Don’t ever do two shows at
once!”
