YEARBOOK STAFF ADVISOR RETIRES
Dr. Josephine Hendrix has
taught for 40 years. Teaching has
been her life. After 30 years at this
college, and 10 years as a high
school teacher, she has retired. Dr.
Hendrix is currently living in Illi
nois for the summer. Dr. Hendrix
has a husband, E.H., and two sons,
Benny, of Raleigh, and Timothy,
of Illinois. Her family has been
wonderful in supporting her while
she continued her education and in
her many years of teaching. Over
the years she has taught mathemat
ics, physical sciences, physics, ge
ology, and calculus. And if that is
not enough. Dr. Hendrix has been
heading up the newspaper and
yearbook staff for the last 18 years.
She also was the advisor of the Phi
Theta Kappa organization of
WCC. She has given this college
many years of hard work.
Dr. Hendrix began her edu
cation in 1951 at Appalachian State
University and received her under
graduate degree. She received her
masters at UNC Chapel Hill in
mathematics. She went on to do
postgraduate work at Wake Forest
University, Duke University, and
the University of Virginia. Finally,
she finished her education with a
doctorate from the University of
Southeast Nova, in Florida.
Dr. Hendrix would like to
express her regret over leaving
WCC from which she received
great support over the years, with
academic freedom and a great fac
ulty and staff to work with. She
will mostly miss her students,
though. Her work with the Cou
gar Cry, the yearbook, and the Phi
Theta Kappa has brought her close
friendships with many students
who still keep in touch with her.
Dr. Hendrix says good-bye to her
students and friends, and we say
good-bye to her with great regret.
Thank you. Dr. Hendrix for all
your hard work and dedication to
