The students were chosen on the basis of citizenship, leadership, scholarship and
participation in college and community activities by a committee composed of
representatives from the college faculty, staff, and student body.

Semesters Are Coining...
Spnng Quarter 1997 marks the end of the quarter system at Wilkes Community College
Degmnmg this summer, the college will award credits toward graduation based on a semester
system.
WCC students completing graduation requirements by the end of spring quarter will not be
allected by this change. Those graduating after this summer will have their credits transferred
to the new semester program requirements and complete their studies under the new system
10 faci itate this process, students are encouraged to fmish course sequences now in progress
and make up any mcompletes they might have. For more infomation contact your advisor or

Susan Sills, a Hotel-Restaurant
Management student at Wilkes Community
College, was recently awarded an $850.00
scholarship through the ProMgmt of The
Educational Foundations of the National
Restaurant Association program. Susan’s
application was scored on the basis of her
academic ability and her commitment to the
industry. She was required to complete a
250 word essay on what she perceived to be
biggest challenge facing a
foodservice/hospitality manager in the year
2000 and how her participation in the
