Page 4 Cougar Cry Robinson and Osborne Welcomed to Ashe Campus The Wilkes Community College Student Government As sociation held a reception Monday, January 26, to wel come new personnel and students to the Wilkes Commu nity College Ashe Campus and many new faces were seen. Chris Robinson, an Ashe County native, began work as Director of the WCC Ashe Campus on January 5, 1998. Prior to coming to Wilkes, Robinson had been Sales Manager for McFarland and Company Publishers for six years. He has also previously served as Director of the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce. A 1979 graduate of Wilkes Community College, Robin son continued his education at the University of Mary land, majoring in history and English with a minor in Russian. He returned to Ashe County to work upon com pletion of his tour of duty in the Air Force. A former student of Wilkes Community College’s Ashe Campus, Robinson is familiar with what the College does for the county. When asked about his employment, Robinson stated, “I know that the WCC Ashe Campus has a good foundation as I saw it up close as a student. With the addition of the new facility and new programs, I rec ognized this as an opportunity to have an impact on peo ple’s lives and this community. 1 look forward to doing that.” Robinson and his wife, Jackie, have one nine-year old daughter, Cati, and live in Jefferson. Chris Bare of Jefferson, NC also began his employment at the Wilkes Community College Ashe Campus on Janu ary 5, 1998. Bare is the lead instructor for the Industrial Maintenance program at the Ashe Campus. Prior to com ing to WCC, he was employed as Electrical Trade In structor for the Ashe County Career Center. No stranger to WCC, Bare has been a part of the college as a student or adjunct instructor since 1988. He gradu ated from WCC’s Electromechanical Technology pro gram in 1993, having taken all but one class at the Ashe Campus. He continued his education at Appalachian State University where he received his Bachelor of Tech nology degree in 1995. Chris Robinson, Ashe Campus Director, and Angie Osborne, Ashe Cam pus Secretary, were welcomed to WCC at a reception on February 26. instructor in 1994. “I like what’s going on here at WCC,” stated Bare. “Wilkes Community College is good for Ashe County and 1 wanted to be a part of it.” He continued, “Most of all, 1 enjoy the job.” Chris and his wife, Amy, reside in Jefferson. As secretary for the WCC Ashe Campus, Angie Osborne plays a vital role in the operation of the campus. Mrs. Os borne began working for WCC January 5, 1998, leaving her position in the Admissions Department of Appala chian State University in Boone, NC. Mrs. Osborne is an Ashe County native, graduating from Ashe Central High School prior to attending Wilkes Community College and Appalachian State University. Mrs. Osborne stated that she was pleased to return to her hometown to work, making her more accessible for vol unteer work at her daughter’s school in her spare time. “I am glad to work here in Ashe and for Wilkes Community College,” she stated. “I am excited about being a part of the college here,” she continued, “Because I feel that I can now give back to this community.” Mrs. Osborne, her husband Derick, and daughter Lauren Roland live in West Jefferson. Other full-time staff at the WCC Ashe Campus include Regina DeLisse, Barbara Thomas and Jerry Moretz.
