WCC Officially Dedicates Lowers Hall
I March 29,
celebrated the successful
completion of the Next
Step Campaign Phase
One and officially
dedicated the science
and technology building
Everyone who made a
the Next Step
One was invited
to the event to
conclusion of the
goal of Phase
One, which began
in 2004, was to
parking spaces and
a new building
a new science
an industrial lab and shop, and other
miscellaneous items such as land
acquisition and equipment. An open house
for donors was held from 5:00 pm until
7:00 pm with dedication speeches and a
ribbon cutting occurring at 5:45 pm.
The 35,000 square foot science and
technology building, Lowe's Hall, fulfilled the need for
instructional space, including new biology, chemistry,
physics labs, and cyber classrooms. Lowe’s Hall also
features the James Larkin Pearson Collection and
serves as a connector between upper and lower campus
via the building’s twin elevators.
“ Lowe’s Hall was named in honor of the 40-year
relationship between WCC and Lowe’s Companies,
Inc. Lowe’s has been involved with the growth and development
of WCC for the past four decades in a myriad of ways. The
contributions of Lowe’s supported the building construction
technology students’ work on houses one through nine, which
provided students a unique learning opportunity. In addition, the
Child Development Center was doubled in size due to Lowe’s
support. Lowe’s has contributed through sponsorship of college
events, including the Henry Moore Golf Classic and MerleFest.
Additional support is received through scholarships,
Lowe’s Chair, planogram sales. Swing for Charity 2004
and 2005, grants, and other in-kind contributions.
Lowe’s has consistently provided resources and support
that enhance student learning and opportunity.
