Volume 39- Issue 1 Human Service Club Lends a Helping Hand By : Brandy Lee Church What is the Human Services Club? It is a great organization that is made up of all future human service employees, in other words, anyone viha is enrolled in the human services program can be a part of the club. I myself am proud to be a part of this organization because of all the charitable donations that were made last year. Speaking with Chastity Kyle, a second year human services student, she told me about some events that took place last year. The club held an ADAP social, which is a dance for people with developmental disabilities. The Human Services Club not only decorated the room beautifully and served food, but also participated in the dance as well. They brought their families and danced the night away and brought an incredible time to people with developmental disabilities. She also told about the booth they set up during the cultural fair and how they gave information on important, yet interesting topics such as diversity, infant massage, and aromatherapy. During MerleFest, the club ran the general store where they sold festival necessities such as deodorant, candy, cameras, posters, and t-shirts. Another event Chastity told about was the gift basket raffle. The club made baskets for me, women, and children and sold raffle tickets to people who wanted the opportunity to win one. All of the proceeds went to Christmas in Wilkes, thus giving those less fortunate a wonderful Christmas. This year, the Human Services Club will participate in giving back to the community and the club has some very exciting and charitable events planned. Dur group advisor, Erica Sales-Walker, says this year we will do as much community outreach as passible and also plan on having the same events as last year due to their tremendous success. Helping the people in our community i8 @1583311)101128 that are disabled or less fortunate that we are is very important and rewarding and it should be a community effort. Life would be so much better if everyone made an effort when it comes to community outreach. The goal of the Human Services Club is to get as many people involved when it comes to giving back as possible. Page 9 Random Cougar Facts Cougars are the largest cats that can purr!
