\ PGcembBr 2DD8 Serving WilkBS, Ashe, S AllBghany Caunties Volume 39- Issue 2 WHAT'S INSIDE m Mr Mr. & Ms. WCC and Mr. & Ms. Cougar Elections Held Wilkes Community CollEge announces Mr. and Ms. WCC and Mr. and Ms. Cougar for the 2DD8-20D9 academic year. Nominees for Mr. and Ms. WCC must be full-time sophomore students with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 and active members of their club or organization. Nominees for Mr. and Ms. Cougar must be a full-time student who are also active in a club or organization. Nominees are elected based on votes of the WCC student body. Elections were held on November 11th and 12th and the candidates will represent Wilkes Community CollBge in the Wilkes County Christmas Parade on December Bth. Mr. Barry Keith Shepherd of Millers Creek was electEd to represent Wilkes Cammunlty CnliegB as Mr. WCC. He is the son of Dr. Plato and Ann Shepherd. He and his wife. Lisa, have 3 children, Jeanni, Barry Jr.. and Rebecca. He is pursuing an Associate in Applied Science in Computer Programming and serves as President of the Association of Information Technology Professionals as well as Sophomore Senator in the Student Government Association. He is a mentor in the S.A.G.E. (Supporting Academic Goals for Education) Program, member of Phi Theta Kappa and member of the National Technical Honor Society. His career plans upon graduation from Wilkes Community College include working in the field of computer programming and continuing his education towards a Bachelor of Science degree as a part-time student. Barry states that he is "proud to represent Wilkes Community College as Mr. WCC because the instructors encourage students to set high goals for their education, career and life. Wilkes Community College then assists them toward their goals." Barry concludes. "I believe WCC is a major factor in the success of students, their families, Wilkes County and North Carolina." Ms. Adrian Fawn Taylor of North Wilkesboro was honored as Ms. WCC. She is the daughter of Ms. Renea S. TBylor and is seeking her degrees in Associate in Arts and Associate in Fine Arts in Drama. She plans to transfer to a university after graduation and would love to work with disabled children. She is the President of SGA, member of the Intercultural Club. "WCC Presents". Baptist Student Union, and is a mentor in the S.A.G.E. Program. Ms. Taylor stated that she is "proud to represent WCC because Wilkes Community College has allowed me to experience so much...WCC has allowed me to become a more successful leader and I would like to thank everyone at WCC for their leadership and guidance." Mr. Ricky Justin Gambill of North Wilkesboro was elected as Mr. Cougar. He is the son of Ricky and Denise Gambill. He plans to transfer to UNC-Greensboro to receive his degrees in Drama and Graphic Design. He is a Freshman Senator of the Student Government Association and a reporter for the Cougar Cry newspaper. He states, "I am proud to represent WCC as Mr. Cougar because 1 love my school and want to share my school pride with everyone 1 come in contact with as Mr. Cougar." Ms. Catherine-Lee Sarah Hall of Sparta was honored as Ms. Cougar. 2D08. She is the daughter of Al and Bonnie Hall and the Editor-In-Chief of the Cougar Cry newspaper and a member of SGA. She is studying graphic design and plans to transfer to Emory and Henry College in Virginia to pursue bachelor degrees in journalism and graphic design. Upon graduation she hopes to open her own business and/or work for a newspaper organization. Ms. Hall states. "I am proud to represent WCC as Ms Cougar because I love the people in my school and I want to use my time here to make a difference and inspire people to try their best, take risks, and make their dreams come true as they follow their hearts."
