Of all celebrations, either re ligious or secular, Easter is the most beautifully symbolical. A movable feast coming as it does 011 the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equi nox, Easter always occurs at the time of year which best typifies the event commemorated by Eas ter Day. The message of the fir-it Easter morning—"Why seek ye the living among the dead. He is not here, but is risen"—is renewed and re-echoed by all the voices of nature at each successive faster mom. As the Master lay asleep in the tomb, so nature has slept through the dull, numb winter months, and now as if to share in the joy of the Besurrection morn ing. she too awakes from her sleep, and comes forth from her temporary tomb to help bear wit ness that "there is 110 death ; what seems so is transition." No time in the whole year is more stimulating, more fascina tingly beautiful than spring. Everywhere are the signs of re viving life. Everywhere, from words and fields, overhead and underfoot, comes the same glad message that the bonds of death are burst asunder, and life once more reigns supreme. Let us not be deaf to the voices around us. Let us try to realize what Easter really means—to the Christian nations of the world — to ourselves. Let us make this Easter the dawn of an eternal day in our own lives, and— "So live, that when thy summons come to join The innumerable caravan, which moves To that mysterious realm, where each shall take 11 is chamber in the silent halls of death, Thou go not, like a quarry-slave at night, Scourged to his dungeon, but sus tained and soothed By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him, and lies down to pleas ant dreams." Truly we can say—''There is 110 death; what seems so is transi tion." for Christ overcame Death on that first Easter morning, and no longer does the tomb hold any terror or mystery for his follow ers. Because of the Easter vacation (here will be no issue of The Guil ford ia 11 next week. CALENDAR. Thursday: 1.30, mid-week pray er meeting. Friday: 7.00, Literary Societies. In reply to a recent unjust and uncalled for article in the Guil fordian against the so-called "Bats," we consider it our duty, as new men, to make clear our views on this matter. We consid er every man to he created equal and likewise should have equ'i! rights. Although we are new men, we did not come here to act in the capacity of servants for old students. We came here for Ih • purpose of acquiring knowledge, and, had we desired to act as serv ants, we would have applied for such positions. It is commonly understood that first year men are "fresh," but an investigation will show that they are, as a whole, more studious in this institution; while the older students cause the greater part of the excitement and do less actual work. We know that there is no col lege spirit here and furthermore there never will bo as long as the "Bats' are treated as inferiors. \s long as this condition exists it will cause a rebellious spirit among the new men and until this is remedied there will never be any college spirit at Guilford. In regard to hazing; it; is un necessary to comment on this, b cause we are aware of the facv that the State Legislature has set tied this in favor of the new men. Let each man consider his col league his equal. This will do away with the present existing le be!lions spirit and cause more col lege patriotism. We write this not to offend any one but to uphold our rights, the dignity of the school, and to prove that we are true Guilfordians.
