SPRING.
In the spring a young man's
fancies easily turn from thoughts
of work —and the same is equally
true of a young woman's fancies
for that matter. We are well
aware this is an cumulation of
that old familiar line, but we
think its truth is as undeniable.
Spring, of course, suggests "the
bursting buds," "the green sward,
'•the love sick swain and his las
sie" and all the rest of the reper
toire of the spring feverish poet;
but these are not the only
thoughts we would bring to your
minds today. Spring is the su
premely beautiful, enchanting
time of all the year. Life abund
ant reigns once more, and the call
of nature echoes far and near.
We must not fail to heed her call,
we msut get out into God's great
out-of-doors again, and draw
strength and inspiration from it.
We must breathe deeply of the fra
grance of the newly-turned furrow
and the sweetness of ilie opening
blossoms and flowers. We must
think the thoughts of youth and
dream fondly of the unexplored
future before us. But let us re
member we are making or marring
that future right now.
To come down to plain, cold
facts, let us remember that the
final examinations are only three
weeks away. And let us remem
ber that many a race is lost or
won on the stretch of the last lap.
We are on that stretch today and
already the tape is in clear view.
Let us not slacken our pace for a
moment, but rather do our very
best to sprint until we are safely
across the line. Some who have
fallen behind during 1 he year, by
renewed effort can yet make a
creditable showing, while those
who have run good races should
not spoil them now by allowing
their energy to lay at the last mo
ment.
Let us enjoy spring to the ut
most, and likewise let us utilize
its delightful hours to the utmost,
and make these last few weeks of
our college year count much in
the total of our year's endeavors.
