There is no moral man who has not felt the tremendous signifi cnnce of the word "regret." No nge escnpes it. It is the henrt s sorrow for pnst offences. Have you ever stood by the grave of one denr to you and been compelled to remember how much happier you might hnve made Hint life which has now passed beyond your rencb? Hns n hnsty or unkind word ever come back to you and repeated itself so ninny times that you would hnve given nny of your possessions to have been nble to recall it? Hnve you ever acted disrespectfully townrd any one and then were sorry for it? Some mny say that it is useless to regret such things and that what is done, is done and can't be undone. It is true that they cannot be undone but it is by these regretnble things thnt we cn.i improve our daily ac tions; regret keeps the conscience alive in man. , The thing for us to do is to be kind to our friends while they are with us and not wnit till they are gone to find out their good quali ties; the best way to escape regret is-by forming the habit of doing our whole duty and avoiding im pulsive actions. Some one may snv that he intends to mnke it right Jnter. But human life is so uncertain that it is doubtful whether you will hnve nil oppor tunity to do so or not. Another regretnble thing that frequently confronts college stu dents is the fnct thnt they did not apply themselves to their school work as they should. Numerous other things could be pointed out thnt lend to n life of regret but these are enough to show that the opportunities which we have to day will not come to us any more and hence we should make the most of them now. Do it. rif/ht —right now! Y. M. C. A. At V. M. C. A. Thursday even ing Dr. ('. O. Meredith led. He vend the first two chnpters of -lob. ('oniment ing upon the Hook of .Job he said that it was the finest specimen of a drama. Continuing the speaker gave a brief sketch of the contents of this unusual piece of Scripture. lv. Meredith used this vending very appr pvia!ely lor nis talk, in which he spoke of how often we are un,title to see the divine plan in processes that seem to us only the handiwovk of the evil one. He showed how lob was unable to un derstand why he wns thus afliict ed. yet Job bore it believing that (iod would bring nil things out well. Even his friends tried to persuade this diseased man to for sake (iod. hut Job said that God was in his afflictions even as He had been in his prosperity. And .lob was not fooled. The time did come when he again prospered in the blessings of (led. "Thus," the speaker declared, "all men wi'l realize that (lod conducts all well if they will only allow Iliiu to l e*i I them. Then tlit? leader brought (his home to us. lie recognized ;hat none of us is able to see God's plan in the present threatening condi tion of Eur pe. Yet he seemed !• feel that despite the shadows ai. ' gloom which seem to hover over the world that there should be confidence ;hat God could turn all into a blessing. The attendance was small— smaller tliiin it should have Ixeii to hear a man like Dr. Meredith talk. We realize that these even ings are very inviting to one tj take a walk. But is it profitable for us to allow that light fanry to overrule our diety to ourselves, our fellow students and our God? Let us think of the two and decide which is the better: to ioaf for thirty minutes with our thong I, is running in a shallow channel or to spend that time in thinking of things higher than ourselves. Which profits you the more? CALENDAR. Thursday: (j..'{(), Mid-week pray er meetings. Friday: 7.0(1, Literary Societies. Saturday: 8.00, Henry Clay Or atorical contest. Sunday: Religious services.
