BUILDING MATERIAL GREENSBORO, N. C. ADDRESSES AT CONFERENCE. (Continued from first page.) shall be it help in trouble and sor row; which shall soothe the mind and spirit and uplift you." Mr. Barnette. On the evening of Saturday, September 25, Mr. Eugene Bar nette addressed the conference. For the past live years Mr. Bar nette has been a missionary in China. Mr. Barnette's address was an appeal for China and an appeal for clean morals in young men. "1 like the sentiment of fellow ship throughout this conference, but we should remember that the fellowship to which we belong is broader tluvr this conference, and is broader than North Carolina. 1 come back to this country," con tinued Mr. Barnette, ''to testify to the living Christ performing miracles, to testify lli.it God is winning his way in China. There are two great problems in China, first, the disseminating of educa tion, and second, the strengthen ing of the moral foundation. There is a good foundation and plenty of material in China to de velop a good Christian nation. "In China every man is for him self. There are no great business combinations and the Chinese peo ple are realizing the futility and weakness-of their system. A non- Christian Chinese, in speaking of llie two religions, Christianity and Budaisin, said, 'I have found the association men of pure lives, while even your priests are not pure.' Christianity has the power to change men's lives, and as the Chinese express it, ''to help young men from sin." China is turning to Christianity for the solution of its problems. The keynote to (he Christian movement in China is this: 1 have sent you forth to reap. It is ours today to reap the harvest which others have planted. In closing Mr. Barnette said, "I thank God that 1 went to China, and 1 thank God that I want to spend my remaining days 111 China." Dr. Weatherford. Sunday morning September 20. Dr. Weatherford addressed Iho conference together with a large number of visitors. Dr. Weather ford's subject was, "Five Beasons \\ hy We Ought to Ie Christians/' continuing he said, "We try to find out the reasons on which every act of life is founded, so why not think of why we are Chris tians? "The first reason I am a Chris tian is because I was born a Chris tian. Every one here is, in a man ner, born a Christian. Every man and woman in America are to a certain extent Christians, whether they know it or not. Only in the lands where the Bible has found THE GUILFORDIAN its way, is there a belief in the sacredness of women. "The second reason why I am a Christian is because I have tried to think the thing through. II is the only religion Unit can answer these three questions. What shot through the world will bring or der instead of chaos, or, who is God? What is religion. What is the destiny of man, and what the final salvation? The best pro gramme ever planned for life is the Christian Bible. "The third reason I am a Chris tian is because T have seen what Christianity will do. 1 have seen what it has done for China and Turkey, and 1 have also seen what it will do for the Christian life. "My fourth reason for being a Chrisitian is gratitude, gratitude for what Jesus Christ lias done for me personally. "My fifth and last reason for being a Christian is because God satisfies the hungering soul. If then, we have five good reasons why we should be Christians, why are we not now ready to accept Jesus Christ?" Mr. Wilson. The final service of the Y. M. C. A. conference was held in the church Sunday, Sept. 2(1. 7:30 p. m., with Mr. Wilson, Student Sec retary of the Carolinas, presiding. Mr. Wilson in a simple and powerful talk presented to 11s a picture of the faces of Christ: First was a picture of the "Illum ined Face" on the Mount of Trans figuration ; next he told us of the Master's determination as shown in the picture, "Then the Master steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem;" then he pictured the face of prayer as that of the Mas ter in the Garden of Gethsemane; finally he left with us a picture of the "Bruised Face"—a picture of the suffering Christ on Ihe way to the crucifixion. He applied these to the lives of the young men by appealing to each one, "to get a great purpose in life so that it will illumine your face as that of Christ; to stick to this purpose with the sot face; to lead an humble prayer life; and to be willing to suffer all for the Cause even as the Mas ter did." The services closed by the dele gates present forming an unbrok en ring by joining hands around Ihe middle aisle and singing the Association hymnal, "Blest be the Tie that Binds," after which we wer-> by Dr. Newlin.
