When the bell rings at seven o'clock p. m., it is a signal for us to go to work and we are supposed to do nothing else until ten o'clock. But how many of us do this? Proba bly most of the students who have to remain in their rooms improve their time; but among the boys, who are not forced to stay in their rooms, much time is wasted. It is a rule rather than an ex ception to see many of the boys out making polite calls during this period. Some have, by using this as a calling hour, become very sociable companions but at the same time they have not been raising the standard of scholar ship here. Among those who do most of this visiting are to be found the fellows who are not making good. The most lamentable fact in connection with this is that the one who deliberately wastes his time is not the only one who suf fers. If he visits he must vVut some other fellow and perhaps the other fellow is thus led to waste time that he would otherwise use in study. Do not understand this to mean that every fellow should stay in his room as if his life depended 111 it. Nothing of this kind is meant, nor does the writer think tlu\t it should be compulsory to stay in one's room during this hour. The purpose of this is to show that this is a privilege which we should appreciate and not abuse and that too much visiting during this study period is detri mental both to the caller a d host. DON'T FORGET THE MIN STREL ON SATURDAY EVEN ING! Y. M. C. A. NOTES. "Front day to day we observe beautiful Christian characters, but we are prone to forget that it hits been only thru overcoming many temptations that they have obtained them." These are the words with which T. G. I'errv opened his very interesting and instructive talk at the Y. M. C. A. hist Thursday evening. He also read a selection of Scripture from the lirst chapter of James bearing upon the idea that we are not to put the blame for temptation upon God. Again, none can escape temptation. It comes to every one. But we should look upon it not, as something which will bear us down, but as a round in a ladder by which we can mount higher. It is endurance and hardship that make the good soldier. But let us remember that it is only when we overcome temptations that they do us good. The speaker also referred us to many of the greatest men in his tory who accomplished their work thru overcoming temptation. Then Jesus Christ is the supreme example of the conqueror of temp tations. He it was who had the most to overcome, yet never fal tered. One of the most evident things in the speaker's discourse was the spirit of never-say-die. No matter how often we fall there is never a time when we cannot rise again. Lastly we must remember that we will not be tempted more than we can bear. In every temptation we shall be provided with power to overcome it. DON T FORGET THE MTN STREL ON SATURDAY EVEN ING! SCIENCE CLUB.
