4 ALUMNI NOTES The Meeting in Greensboro. Some thirty members of the Alumni Association met at the Y. M. C. A. building in Greensboro Monday afternoon, March 13th, at 4.30 in response to the call of the executive committee. The pur pose of the meeting was stated by Miss Virginia Ragsdale, the chair man of the committee, which was to find out the attitude of the Alumni 011 the question of nomi nations for the Board of Trustees of the college. At the August meeting of the Alumni, it will be remembered, a resolution was passed to the effect that the Alum ni elect, from three candidates, a ]>erson who was then to become the nominee of the association for the position of trustee, the Board having the power to accept or re ject the person thus nominated. Because of later developments the executive committee, whose duty it was (according to the August resolution) to name the three can didates felt that it could not pro ceed without the dictum of the Association; hence the meeting on Monday, March j3th. The matter was then discussed very fully by the meeting and a motion was made that the resolu tion passed in August be rescind ed. All amendment was added to the effect that a committee be ap pointed by the president with power to investigate more careful ly the proposition of alumni repre sentation 011 the Board of Trus tees, confer with the Board, and submit a report at the meeting of the Alumni at commencement. The motion passed as amended and the resolution providing for the nomination of a trustee by the Alumni was declared rescind ed and an investigating committee was to be appointed later by Presi dent Blair. The reasons for the action of the meeting as brought out in the discussion were: the plan as proposed by the August resolution was hastily conceived and speedily passed without due reflection, and that a more thor ough and satisfactory plan could be arrived at if the proper consid eration was given the matter. It was also stated that considerable opposition to the plan adopted in August had arisen and that pos sibly nominations by the Associa tion would not be favorably receiv ed. In view of these considera tions the meeting took the action above mentioned. In line with the action of the meeting. President Blair has an nounced the appointment of the committee as follows: S. n. nod gin, '95, chairman, Virginia Rags dale, 'O2, and L. Lea White, 'O4. THE MINSTREL A SUCCESS. (Continued from first page.) Day at Guilford, a Tragedy in Four Acts." In four scenes, "Breakfast," "Chapel," "College Mass Meeting," and a "Founder's Serenade," Guilford life was cari catured and burlesqued. Perhaps the climax of the evening was reached in the last event when, with unusual scenic effects, the girls at Founders, seen by the glow of the rising moon, were giv en a characteristic 11 p. in. seren ade. The specialties were the clog ging of Presnell, a monologue by Kiser and a solo by Mendenhall. All in all, the minstrel proved to be superior to the average Guil ford production of this type; this is sufficient praise. The credit for its success is due not the participants but also, in 110 small way, to Professors Brinton, Ial derston and Downing, who gave much valuable assistance and suggestion. To Miss White be longs gratitude of the Association for her work in developing and ac companying the musical numbers. It is also to be noted that Mana ger E. B. Carroll and Assistant I). E. Smith are now objects of the solicitous care of Troy Short, president of the Athletic Associa tion. In conclusion, may it be stated that the girls proved their loyalty by the contribution of boudoir caps, dresses, etc., and by repairing the curtain. We thank them.
