We are glad to note that the ath letic cabinet has seen fit to appoint a staff consisting of Ed. Carroll, Joe Reddick and Ralph Yow, whose duty it will be to arrange for some hardy and systematic cheering by the time the basketball boys have limbered up .their joints and, with the council of Coach Doak, made themselves ready for the strenuous task of capturing the State [pennant. It is needless to say that every body will be expected to fall or be thrown in line with this movement. Guilford has no use for anybody who refuses to ardently support all projects the ulterior mo tive of which is the advancement of college interests. IT PAYS TO BE THERE. It has not at any time been doubt ed that Guilford could measure up to its exalted standard in any of its departments, but the two Glee Clubs on last Saturday evening far exceeded the dreams of anxious anticipations, when they rendered one of the most enjoyable programs ever offered to a Guilford audience. "Far Away in the South,"by the young men made one feel the warmth of Southern springtime, hear the chattering of gay bluebirds and scent the pleasing odor of wild flowers perfectly blended with fumes of burning pasture sedge. The Girls' Chorus so perfectly render ed the difficult musical setting of Tennyson's "Lady of Shalott" that its weird and fantastical imagery sunk deep into the minds of the hearers. Miss Papworth is to be congratulated. REALLY A CHANGE. Next issue of this paper will be given over to the young ladies of New Garden Hall and it is expected that a most interesting number will ibe the result. There will be practically none of the regular college news. Even Uncle Munn promises to relin quish his corner unless lie happens to think of something especially im portant and which a week's procras tination would spoil in his system, in which case he reserves the right to give vent to his dreamy propensities. SENIORS INVITED TO DINE AT NEW GARDEN. Many things happen on Fridays. It is either the fairest or the foulest day of the whole week. Last Friday was the fairest speaking literally and fig uratively ifor the Seniors, for it was then that they were given the rare privilege of accepting an invitation to take a meal at New Garden. The boys for some reasons easily understood were very, very anxious to go and several minutes before the five thirty bell rang, they were shiv ering out in the cold, waiting for the Pounders girls. After a brisk walk over to New Garden the Seniors were met at the door by Miss Dix and the New Gar den Seniors and ushered into the dining room. Such a "spoon-breaking" supper! There was just the right number of girls and 'boys. This is a splendid way to get plenty to eat and to find out things which have long aroused curiosity. After a good supper we adjourned to the students' parlor where several interesting topics were discussed un til the society ibell broke up the party. Y. M. C. A. OBSERVES WEEK OF PRAYER. The Y. M. C. A. observed the week of world prayer from November 12 to 16 inclusive. The time of special prayer at Guilford was from 10 to 10:15 every evening. The student body was divided up into groups and a leader was appointed for each one. At the appointed time the large bell rang, and in twelve dormitory rooms prayer circles were formed. It is a pleasure to state that the attendance was good. In these groups the fel lows got very near to each other in the real spirit of prayer. BIBLICAL SEMINAR. The Biblical Seminar imet Monday evening, November 13th, with a good attendance. Prof. Balderston le d the discussion for the evening. He made some interesting remarks regarding church work and church problems. At the next meeting the Seminar will discuss the value of revival meet ings. THE GUILF ORDIAN INTERESTING PROGRAM REN DERED BY CLAYS. The Henry Clay Literary Society met on Friday night, November 17, The question for debate was: "Re solved. That all public utilities should be owned and operated by the city government." The affirmative was represented by Lassiter, Huffines and Marlette, and the negative by Brax ton, J. White and Barrette. The judges decided in favor of the nega tive. The next number on the pro gram was a reading by Jos. Doug'h ton. A quartette consisting of Messrs. Budd, Truman, Carey and Lindley then sang. This is an innovation and is proving a great success. Under head of election of officers the following were elected: Presi dent, Itimous Valentine; vice-presi dent, Hussey; secretary, Jesse Gar ner; assistant secretary, J. White; marshal, E. B. Carroll. Mr. H. R. Stanley was accepted in to membership. WEUSTERIANS ELECT OFFICERS. At the last meeting of the We>bster ian Literary Society the debate for the evening was "Resolved, That the United States should take possession and govern Mexico." The affirmative was ably advanced by Messrs. C. Sut ton and L. Byrd, while Messrs. L. Tremain and J. D. Dorsett excellently argued the negative. The judges ren dered a decision for the negative. Mr. J. T. Reddick closed the pro gram with an excellent reading. Officers for the rest of the term were elected as follows, J. T. Reddick president; D. S. Cameron, vicenpresi dent; Chester Sutton, secretary; L. Tremain, assistant secretary, and J. D. Dorsett, marshal. "A Virginia Heroine" November 25th by Y. W. C. A.
