WEBSTERIANS ELECT OFFICERS The Websterian Literary Society was called to order Friday night by President Hinshaw. The election of officers took place and the folowing men were chosen: President, D. E. Smith; vice-president, R. J. Yow; secretary, D. S. Cameron; assistant secretary, J. D. Dorsett; marshal, R. A. Lineberry. An excellent literary program fol lowed. Robert H. Frazier was ap pointed critic. Both sides of the ship subsidy question were well ar gued. Messrs. J. 1"). Dorsett, O. Zach ery and J. H. Beeson advanced strong argument for the affirmative showing the need of an American merchant marine and explaining that ship subsidies were democratic and had been proven practical and bene ficial. Mesrs. H. N. Williard, T. N. Wil liard and C. L. Finch upheld the neg ative. They very effectively argued the uselessness of subsidies in build ing our merchant marine. The dan gers and failures of such plans were well pictured. Every man on both sides of this interesting question did his part well and the entire program was a success. A two to one decision was rendered in favor of the affirma tive. Several visitors were present and all joined in commending the Web sterian Society and encouraging it to still greater work. Mr. A. L. Riddick, of 'l6 gave an excellent talk on the "Web Spirit." After the critic's re port the Society adjourned. V. W. C. A. ORGANIZES FOR NEXT YEAR (Continued from first page) responsible, so she has planned in order to make it easy for the next cabinet to take up the work. She has succeeded in doing this with the hearty support of her co workers, Misses Speas, Shamburger and Lassiter.. Miss Speas, by her tactful method of presenting the Association work to the prospective members, has suc ceeded in bringing every girl into ca tive membership. As treasurer of the Association, Miss Shamburger has shown great executive ability and has handled the funds in an effiecient manner. She has opened up a Y. W. store both in Nesv Garden and Founders. These have proved profitable, bringing in a nice little sum to the treasury. 'Miss Lassiter has been a bulwark of strength to the president, support ing her in all her endeavors and un dertakings. All the officers by their faithful work and untiring efforts have brot to bear an influence which has led to the upbuilding and development of the Association. UNCLE MUNN'S CORNER. You'll never know till off you go from the campus bright and green that treasures there are rich and rare as found on any scene. You sport and play from day to day all heedless of the gold that college life with petty strife will some day cease to hold. You'll miss a friend when you've found the end of classwork's toil and care, but there will remain a sweet refrain to cheer you every where. So learn the art before you part of testing friendship's worth and you'll have the key wherever you be to the thirsting men of earth. I'M ILOMATHEAN NOTES. For some time Philomatheans iiave kept their extemporaneous tal ent hidden in a napkin; however at the last meeting, when the first num ber on the program was announced as a love song by Deborah Brown, girl sat up, listened, and found that this talent had not grown rusty with idleness. Then followed an ex tensive discussion of the creation of the world and subsequent events by Mary Ina Shamburger. This ended the extemporaneous part of the pro gram except the last number, which was an instrumental solo by Tlielma Cloud. The debate for the evening was: Resolved, That the United States should subsidize its merchant ma rine. The affirmative side of the question was upheld by Gladys Fair cloth and Carrie Wakefield. In the absence of the speakers for the nega tive, 'Gertrude Hobbs and Elsie Clegg read their speeches which, with a short rebuttal swayed the minds of the judges. The next number on the program was an interesting discussion of the Leak by Addie*Morris. To the ma jority of the members her remarks were by no means a repetition of something already known. After some encouraging remarks from Mrs. Bird, a visitor, the Soci ety listened to a constructvie critic's report and adjourned. VANSTORY CLOTHING COMPANY Modern Clothing GREENSBORO, N. C.
