In view of the fact that the Easter
holidays are due to arrive at this
week's end, the Guilfordian an
nounces that publication of the next
numiber will be postponed a week.
A number of the boys and girls will
be off the hill while others will lin
ger around under the pretense of ar
ranging tennis games which are rare
ly, if ever, actually played. What
ever be the plans, we wish for our
friends and readers the best of luck
in selecting from the amusements
which circumstances may chance to
offer.
Now that the track managers have
succeeded in arranging a triangular
meet with Davidson and Elon, it is
high time some real ginger was be
ing manifested by the men who
dream of the halo that surrounds a
seat on the contestant's bench. Some
systematic effort backed by the en
tire student body will be necessary
to swell our coffers with 'trophies of
the jack rabbit art. In all probabil
ity another meet will be arranged
wil Elon and if the men avail them
selves of the practice afforded them,
there is no reason why Guilford
should not be nobly represented at
the annual track meet which is to
be held at the University. Let's all
get behind this team with the same
c.d fervor and anticipation 'that has
oV aracterized the Quaker's winning
teams. Every man who is eligible
and capable should go out for thoro
and regular practice instead of tak
ing cross country runs every fourth
day in the hope of being able to star
in the hundred yard dash. The
grounds are in good shape and the
coach is boiling over with instruc
tions. Get on the job and be ready
when the show down comes.
Prof. Balderston Leads Y. M. C. A.
At the last meeting of the Y. M. C.
A., Prof. Balderston discussed in an
interesting and searching maner the
motives of some people who do not
wish to appear religious. He show
ed that the fear of hypocrisy was in
many cases ungrounded and that
some who make great efforts not to
be hypocrites by these very efforts
sometimes become greater hypocrites
than ever.
Y. \V. C. A. CLOSES
SUCCESSFUL YEAR
(Continued from first page)
report of her year's work. Then
while "Blest be the Tie That Binds"
was being sung softly, the members
of the old and new cabinets formed
a semi-circle around the table. Then
the retiring president, Hazel Graham
Armstrong, read a comprehensive
epitome of the past year in Associa
tion work, summarizing the efforts
of the various departments and also
touching upon our representation at
Blue Ridge and at the. Volunteer
Conference in Greensboro. And to
the new officers, she showed new
visions of service, new opportunities
of helpfulness, a broader outlook in
to Association fields. Then to the
President-elect, Bernice Pike, she
outlined the duties and obligations
of her office, holding in her hand a
lighted candle from which she igni
ted the candle of her successor, en
joining her to carry on the work in
the name and by the help of Him
who is the Light of the World.
After a few appropriate remarks
from Miss Pike, the other senior of
ficers, Ethel Speas, vice-president;
Maude Lassiter, Secretary, and Mary
Ina Shamburger, Treasurer, gave to
their successors a glimpse of the
work of their respective offices, and
presented lovely jonquils, in token
of their installation, to Ellen Rai
ford, Vice-President, Deborah Brown
Secretary, and Addie Morris, Treas
urer—all members of the present
Junior class. Then Oma Grey, the
retiring chairman of the social com
mittee, delivered her insignia of of
fice with much good advice to her
successor Totten Moton and thus a
signally successful year came to a
close.
The following girls, besides the of
ficers named, compose the cabinet
for the coming year: Ruth Col
trane, chairman mission study com
mittee; Beatrice Lewallen, Bible
study; Totten Moton, social commit
tee; Ellen Raiford, religious meet
ings, and Deborah Brown, Associa
tion news.
