// / ! In ancient times the poet's ryhmes Did tell how sights like this were seen When man and maid together strayed On Guilford's sunny campus green. 6£Po} ufc' Those days of yore will come no more For hopes and hearts are torn in twain When Miss Louise amid the trees Sees Cupid at his work again. When things are sent to the laundry Their beauty is ended for good, The method of washing is dreadful (They could change it if they would). The niggers boil clothes and scorch them And put them thru a machine, And finally give them a soaking, That turns them blue and green. As the girls get back their laundry Such scolding and fussing you hear Good tempers, as well as finery, Are being ruined I fear. BAPTISTS HELD TO THREE TOUCHDOWNS (Continued from first page) the effect of overwork upon our back field. Bryant made another effort to play, in sipite of his badly wrenched knee, but was again injured and had to be helped from the field. Wake Forest came back strong and 'with an excellently working backfield suc ceeded in making three touchdowns. These were made l'argely by tlhe good work of Robenhorst, and Pruette. In this period Reddisck was forced out of the game by injuries. Wilson, who succeeded him, played a good game, but lacked Reddick's experi ence and judgment. While the whole iGuilford team played aggressive football the work of Newlin, Reddick and Fort deserves especial mention. Newlin was clear ly the gtar backfield man of the game and his line plunges were from the standpoint of good football, the fea ture of the afternoon. Red dick play ed an almost perfect game at end botih on offense and defense. Jones roved his ability to carry more than u's share of the backfield work and showed himself an experienced and hard playing backfield man. The team is showing a steadily im proving form and the ragged features of the earlier games were not appar ent. Coach Doak is to be congratu lated on the amount of football he has succeeded in teaching the team. Saturday's game showed little evi dence that this is Guilford's second year in football. The line up follows: Guilford Wake Forest Stafford left end Bowens Henley .... left tackle Gay Babb left guard Coble Fort center . . Blankens'hip Zaehary .... r. guard ....
