LETTERS TO GUILFORDIAN. (Nothing under this head is neces sarily endorsed by the Board or any member o; it.) THE MUSINGS OF MY BOOK. Yes, said the Book, life is a happy round in the main when every one who reads my pages is happily doing so. To pass on and on from one to another is rather strenuous with nev er a rest between, but so long as they handle me carefully, the wear and tear is but a part of life. But alas! To coime into the hands of the nervous girl who jumps up suddenly from her reading and to keep the pilace turns me face down— this nearly breaks my back—to say nothing of the ignominy of lying on your face. But for him who wants to keep his "place" (as if every one should not know what he has read) well, for such an one without a book marker, just quietly to turn dawn the leiaf is pain itself—and so my page is forever disfigured. Boys may want creases in their pants but no creases please in the leaves of the book. And to be made a scratch pad! Well, if my reader does like certain expressions, she need not detract frorni them by her own comments. But worst of all perhaps is the care less reader who leaves we under the tree over night, or lets me get rained on and warped. Every one likes to have a nice, clean face, even a book, but some people can hardly touch a book with out leaving one or more finger prints. A Bertillon system might reveal the readers more accurately than the register book. But the value of myself to me is greater than to another and when that other is careless in my use and forgetful of my value, me and mine are almost ready to withdraw from access—>and—well never mind what. J. S. W. CLAYS ROYALLY ENTERTAINED (Continued from first page) triactively decorated with green crepe, which, with the shaded lights, made of the whole a scen j of unusual and extraordinary beauty. When all had found comfortable seats the guests were given, as favors, Irish cob pipes with a green ribbon dainti ly tied around the steam, and the letters "H. C. L. S." artistically painted on the bowl. Then delight ful refreshments were served consist ing of Waldorf salad, cheese straws, olives, sandwiches, cream, cake and coffee. But Father Time would not pause in his course and just when everyone was gayest and when laughter was merriest the departing hour came. All the goodnights were caid and his tory had one more event to add to its pages. PERSONALS. • Misses Grace and Luna Taylor and Mr. Spotswood Taylor were week-end guests of their brother, John.
