THE FLU AT GUILFORD. (With apologies to Kipling) Where are you taking all those girls inquired the curious Red. They've got the flu; they've got the flu, Joe Taylor sadly said. I took them from New Garden and stacked them by the door, They made my boy I reckon about a cord or more. I feel like Charon wafting souls o'er styxes lonely shore, And I've got to take five more to morrow morning. What makes you flivver bright and clean inquired the curious Red. It's washed with tears, it' 6 washed with tears, Joe Taylor sadly said. My shoulders both are soaking wet, my back and neck are worse, I'd rather turn my Henry Ford into a bloomin' hearse. Next time I'll get a bathing suit be fore I serve as nurse, And I've got to take ten more to morrow morning. Where is that sound of wailing in quired the curious Red, It's everywhere; it's everywhere, Joe Taylor sadly said. For over in New Garden they're fall ing by the score, And Cox just looks like no man's land when the battles' work is o'er; And Founders' sad and lonely now, with crepe on every door, And I take twelve more to Cox to- morrow morning Where are you taking all those plates? inquired the curious Red, To feed the flus, to feed the flus, Joe Taylor sadly said. They eat cod liver oil frappe with sauce of listerine And for dessert a little bowl of glyco thymoline. We're serving to Hugh Moore today one seventh of a bean, He says he'll starve to death before the morning. WEBS HOTLY CONTEST "LEAGUE OF NATIONS" I The last meeting of the Webs, Friday evening, Jan. 24>th, was of the old-time spirit. The question, Resolved, That ex-President Taft has done more for the League of Nations in the permanent peace than Presi dent Wilson was thoroly and ably debated. H. M. Patterson and H. N. Williard supported the affirmative, while J. D. Dorsett and R. A. Line berry put over a negative decision. The affirmative maintained that ex- President Taft conceived of and gave to the world the "League of Na tions" idea, and spent much time in agitating the importance of the great plah for the coming peace confer ence. Also it was added that Presi dent Wilson is merely soliciting for the League. Hence the affirmative held that that agitation is greater than solicitation. The negative showed by Wilson's achievements in setting forth America's ideal that he has introduced and familiarized the policy to the European powers. Therefore, the negative claimed our President's part in the great task to be superior. The next administration is in the hands of H. M. Patterson, president; H. C. Raiford, vice-president; Earl MeFarland, secretary; O. Stafford, assistant secretary, and J. Brown, marshal. The encouraging remarks of Mr. Lane and W. L. Rudd, an old Web, attests the splendid work now going on in society. THOMAS HOWARD CO. WHOLESALE GROCERS Durham, N. C Greenville, S. C. Spartanburg, S. C. Columbia, 9. C. and Greensboro, N. C. W. P.
